Opening question at Monday's press conference:

The opening question wondered if freshman Sam Ehlinger was the man to start Saturday against Oklahoma after amassing 487 yards of total offense in a 40-34 double-overtime win over Kansas State. Variations on the same theme would follow.

The answers were pretty clear. Herman said he first needs to assess sophomore Shane Buechele's recovery from his sprained ankle. Even if he does pick a QB, that decision is going to remain private. Officially, Texas is listing Ehlinger and Buechele as co-starters.

"Again, it doesn't do me any good to tell you, even if I did know, because I kind of like having the defense have to prepare for two," Herman said. "So I doubt if you're going to hear anything from me throughout the course of the week, but you guys can keep asking."

Texas is 3-2, 2-0 Big XII so a loss to Oklahoma and Baker Mayfield would give them 3 early losses. I think Oklahoma wins a close game. Line is OU -7.5.

And if there was any doubt about who gets the start, the doughnuts pretty much give it away:

Ehlinger is also acting like the starter, providing dozens of donuts to his offensive linemen.

Last time both Texas and OU both had new football coaches in the Red River Rivalry?

Was in 1947. Lincoln Riley and Tom Herman will have a long way to go to match the wild, bottle-throwing, badly officiated 1947 OU-Texas game.

Texas' Blair Cherry and OU's Bud Wilkinson were both in their first seasons when they met in 1947.

Tom Herman vows for #Longhorns to keep going for it on 4th down.

Oklahoma lead by 20 in the second quarter, then held on to beat Texas 29-24 as Mayfield lead the Sooners for a late 4th quarter touchdown after falling behind on a Ehlinger 8 yard td run.

Lincoln Riley, the youngest FBS head coach at 34, topped Tom Herman in the first Texas-OU matchup since 1947 with both coaches leading their teams for the first time. Bud Wilkinson, who led the Sooners to three national titles, was the losing coach in that game.

#Texas #Longhorns' @CoachTomHerman when asked if he'll stick with @sehlinger3 at QB: "I would think so at this point."

After 29-24 #OU loss, #Texas QB @sehlinger3 (19 of 39 pass 278 yds, 1 TD; 22 run 106 yds, 1 TD): "I'm looking forward to the next 3 years."

Ehlinger got knocked out, they put in Buechele, but went back to Ehlinger asap. I sense Buechele transfers!

When Buechele went in, he didn't look so hot.  Of course he probably got minimal reps with the first string during practices last week, so maybe that's not fair, but he certainly didn't come off the bench and save the day.  Not sure where he will go where he has a better shot at starting, except to a non-power five school.  Maybe U of H?

Honestly I think he stays at tu.
