View Full Version : Biggest game of Fran's career?

Is it the Tech game? At least at A&M?

I would have to say it is. It seems like even the biggest skeptics are on the fence right now after the start of this season. If he wins, I think he will get a lot of support. But if he loses, A LOT of people are going to turn on him.

i don't think it is, but it is an important conference game.

It is the biggest game of this, a very critical year, thus far.
Hurdle number 1.

This is a must win. If he doesn't win this game it will be the signal that the Aggies haven't gotten back to the respectable level that they had in the late 80's early and mid 90's.

Also, he needs to show some kind of emotion. That monotone manner of his isn't very inspiring.

I agree with 12thAg, it's Hurdle Number 1...

It's the first hurdle of the season, no doubt. But a loss here, and an uninspiring win or loss at baylor (again), and yes, I think the fans start to turn on Fran pretty badly.

I have my doubts about Darnell still - I think this is a bigger game for him, than for Fran. Darnell was "celebrating" the Army win after the last play, like it was a big upset or something. I thought he should have just wiped his brow, gave a big "shewwwwww", and walked off the field.

I won't hijack this thread with Army game talk, but I was really proud of the way Army played against us, and I hope their success against Baylor snowballs for them.

Now, gird your loins, Ags, let's go kick some red dirt u tail.

Agreed. Fran needs to treat every game like the Super Bowl this year.

I think this is definitely a MUST WIN game for Franchione and in that perspective, his biggest game. I know I am sick of losing to teams that we out recruit (Baylor, Tech, almost Army, Texas state, etc.) I don't always agree with everything boozin85 writes, but he is right today!!! I really don't think the alumni will keep fran if he loses to tech and texas AGAIN.
(My opinion only!)

I ask all of you, how are you going to feel about aggie football sunday morning if tech wins??? Personally, I will feel like crap.

Actually it wouldn't be so bad. We have lost so many important games in the last few years that I have almost grown use to it. Although we are on a roll so this one will sting.

I remember when we didn't "lose" games and for the Sake of God "NEVER" lost a game at Kyle Field. We went years without losing games there. And if we lost I felt sick for days. It was like the impossible happened.

I actually miss that sick feeling I got when we lost. But now it's just showing how I'm settling with this new breed of games were playing. Our conference games our tougher now and it's a race for our team to be better then their teams.

This speaks volumes. We need to get the FIRE back and be sick like you used to be when we lose. :gig:

I know that in 04 i got that sick feeling after every loss. Last year really screwed me up though. Although i almost s*** a brick the entire first quarter of the La Tech game.

What amazes me is that after the Army game, everyone-coaches included-show a lot of emotion and we have a lot of people being critical of that. Then they turn around and WANT to see emotion out of the coaches.

Obviously Shelby Metcalf was right. The only happy Aggie is an unhappy one.

I agree.

You get this:
"Fran shouldn't hug and celebrate the goal line stand against Army."

Then this:
"Fran doesn't show any emotions...he needs to light a fire and be an emotional leader."

And anybody who says the coaches shouldn't have been happy after the Army goal line stand needs to just stop talking. The defense came through huge -- why not celebrate that? Yes, we almost lost, but the defense probably took larger steps and learned more about themselves in that one series then if we would've beat Army 50-14. For all we know, that could've carried over into the LA Tech game and been why A&M's defense was so "on" in that game.

Its the biggest game of his tenure at A&M thus far. we have a chance to do something major and get rolling with a head of steam, while it could also signal the end for him. UP TO THIS POINT, it is the biggest.

I think this is a turning point for Fran and his tenure and A&M. Four years in and things have only gotten worse ending with last year. We start off this year with a soft schedule. This game is our first real test. He needs to win to prove he's got what it takes to run the program or I think he won't be around much longer.

Coach Fran also needs to show some fire. I don't doubt that he has it in him but he doesn't show it well in post game interviews. That being said when you squeak by Army you need to thank your lucky stars and walk off the field. There's nothing to celebrate about barely beating a team we should have routed.

i tend to disagree here. i think the showing emotion after the defense put in a huge stand is great!

For anyone who's interested here's a clip of Charlie Pallilo and Brent Zwerneman who covers the Aggies for the San Antonio Express News discussing if the tech game is the biggest game of Fran's career.

http://www.espn790.com/cc-common/podcast.html

The link is about half way down the page it's the first clip under Charlie Pallilo podcasts.

Pretty interesting stuff.

It's a first step to getting back to winning again but not the biggest game of his career yet.

It's a first step to getting back to winning again but not the biggest game of his career yet.

I'd say it depends on whether you win or lose. You win, and there's bigger games still to come.

You lose, and that could start a tailspin possibly to a disappointing season and him getting fired.

Apart from that, this strikes me as a key game in your series with them. It is tightening up and this might be the last game at Kyle for a while for you guys. You look at the series history and you guys built the lead you have on them now largely in the first 15 games you played them. Since then it has evened out and since the big 12 it's gone their way.

I'd think this is a series you guys would want to start turning back around a bit and this is the best opportunity you have to do it. Tech will be a better team next year.

If you guys lose to OU or us again, it would hurt, and you guys might think it would be worse than losing to Tech again, but I'm not so sure. Our series is a series of streaks. We happen to be on one now. As for OU, I think their fortunes are about to turn. I'm not so sure Bob Stoops is going to be around much longer there, and even if he is, he doesn't have quite the mystique he once had there.

No question it's the biggest game of his career at A&M
Anyone who doesnt have trouble sleeping after an Aggie loss needs to take a good hard look at himself
Fran is Fran, he doesnt show much emotion. Dont we say to win like you've been there and lose gracefully?? I'll bet the players wouldnt say that he has no emotion and they're the ones who count.
tu is a bigger rivalry and will be a bigger game after this one, but when we win tomorrow...I'm so sorry BOOZIN...Fran is safe...for at least a year. I want to beat ou and neb, but I dont hate them. I HATE tu and tceh...well maybe I just feel sorry for tceh(learning disability, inferiority complex, etc. and all)

A win here against Texas Tech will sure help out Coach Fran's cause for him to remain the A&M coach a little longer.
