This had to be written by a sip. I've never seen the word "rivalry" used so much in one article.
Undefeated Aggies heat up rivalry with Texas Tech
Texas' instate rivalry
even if the recent results in the rivalry might indicate otherwise.
Fans from both schools have been eagerly anticipating what has developed into one of the most underrated rivalries in college football.
The seeds of this rivalry started long before Leach arrived in Lubbock.
Tech has been able to take advantage in the rivalry
And the rivalry doesn't figure to turn until A&M

We really need to start winning consistently so all this rivalry talk can end.
I saw they are even selling anti-tech shirts now.. ugh...

I don't understand what the big deal is. Whether you like it or not, tech looks at us at their rival. That won't change even if we beat them 20 years in a row. That doesn't mean that we have to recognize it back, but they are always going to feel that way.

Tech is a rival. We need to treat them as such. It is ok for A&M to have more than one rival.

Fine, but let it be someone else. Not them...

Rivals are like enemies. Sometimes you choose them, sometimes they choose you.

This is true, but tceh is like a bunch of dingle berries that you just can't get rid of. No matter how much you wash your ass.:)

I have never understood the obsession of some Aggies with making sure that Tech is not a rival. They are. If they weren't a rival, dumbasses wouldn't insist on spelling Tech "tceh".

We make fun of everyone.... that doesn't make everyone our rivals...

I don't really get what the problem is, I don't really care if they are a rival or not...it's an important game regardless. It is a rivalry among my group of friends b/c half of us went to A&M and the other half to tech.

as far as i'm concerned every team in the Big 12 south is a "rival" and i think we should BEAT THE HELL OUTTA everyone of them!
t.u. is however, our MAIN rival.

From the outside it sure looks like you guys have quite a rivalry.
The fact that you don't respect them, find them inferior, believe them to be classless, obnoxious and stupid doesn't mean they're not a rival. It makes them your version of Arkansas to us. Rivalries aren't all about equality or respect. Just like Arkansas hates us because they think we get too much undeserved attention, Tech feels the same way about you guys.
It's nothing to downplay. Whether you consider Tech your rival or not, they're going to get attention doing what Leach has been doing there.
The attitude that they don't deserve any special consideration may be why you're 3-8 against them in the last 11 games--they're treating it like a Super Bowl while Fran, admittedly, regards it as one sided.

Well said.
Although while I feel we the staff has downplayed tech in the past, having thier ass handed to them year in and out has probably worked them pretty hard all this week.

I just seem to see a lot of Aggies saying they don't like this called a rivalry because Tech is beneath them.
So what if they are--that's exactly why it's such a great rivalry. It brings the hate to the table, or should bring the hate to the table.
It's why Michigan hates losing to MSU. It's why we hate losing to Arkansas. It's why OU hates losing to OSU.
Most schools have a rivalry or two about respect and one about pure friggin hatred. Tech is your hate rival.
You just f*cking hate losing to them because their programs suck.

Face it folks, Tech fan is bitter because he couldn't get into Texas A&M or t.u. and had to settle for a second tier university. Wouldn't you be bitter too if you couldn't cut the mustard?

I second that! Just from my frame of reference in Tennessee, the Vols have many rivalries.
1) Alabama - the hate rivalry
2) Florida/Georgia - the "They have our number" rivalry
3) Vanderbilt - the state rivalry, who they CANNOT lose to, or they call for Fulmer's head.
I have no prob w/ tceh being a rival...& I think it stems more from the lack of respect their fans show for our school, traditions, etc. As Aggies, we feel there should be a level of mutual respect, yet tceh fans do not return & take it a step further by being rude, obnoxious, & hateful (starting fights, tortillas, on & on). Couple that w/ them having our number the last few years & I'd say that is a recipe for a rivalry.

The reason that ESPN keeps calling it a rivalry is b/c the game is televised on ABC. They want to build the game up for people outside of the Big 12 that don't know much about our history with them. Its all about TV money.
