Changes at Games...

My father-in-law were talking at the La Tech game about some things that have changed since we were in school. Granted, I've had season tickets since I've been out, but some of these things just hit me last Saturday.

1. When did we start singing the War Hymn after the 1st quarter? It used to only be after the 3rd.

2. When did people start whooping at "Saw varsity's horns off....short!" ? We only whooped after the horns were sawed off

There were some more that we thought of too, but I can't remember for now. I'll add more later.

Maybe I'm wrong, but usually the time after the first quarter is for the opposing team to play their fight song. When there is no opposing team band we play the War Hymn instead.

The war hymn thing just started this year from what I can remember but people have been whooping after short since '02 I know.

yah, The War Hymn thing has just started this year. or at least this is the first year i have noticed it. i remember doing the Whoop thing back in 01

War Hymn has been like that since I started school here in '03 and maybe a year or two before that. It's only when the opponent doesn't have a band there though.

We never whooped in the middle of the War Hymn from '96-'00--only at the end.

i think that they play the war hymn too much... i mean, before the game, end of the first quarter, end of the third quarter, after the win... not that i dont looovee when they play it, it just seems overplayed and tends to lose its meaning...

This whole deal came up because my father-in-law (Class of '83) started discussing about when they started whooping in the middle of the War Hymn. He said they never did it when he was in school & I stated that when we went through everything at Fish Camp they only taught us to whoop (as seniors) after the thing was over. Mr. Farmer (Class of '49) sits behind us & he overheard us talking & he chimed in saying that he was taught to only whoop at the end of it, too.

So, I figured I ask. I know when I lived in the dorm we went to games with seniors & they never whooped until the very end. Do they teach y'all to whoop after "saw varsity's horns off...short"? Because we weren't taught that way.

There's always an issue for some reason with swaying the 2nd time since you've got some seniors whooping and then all the little people starting up swaying but not always the same way so then seniors usually get stuck in the middle of being pulled or smashed from 2 sides.

1. Beats me. That was the first time I noticed it, and it struck me as wierd.

2. That's been going on since my freshman year (fall '04) at least. It messes up the "horns are sawed off" part, because the seniors are swaying a different direction than the rest of their row.

Secondly, you don't whoop during the war hymn, and you sing thw war hymn after each quarter.
