Hall said he met with Byrne, because the A&M job is intriguing.
“ I think you want to have a chance to compete nationally,” Hall said. “I think that’s definitely a possibility there. You’re also looking for a better situation as a coach and for your family. And, that’s probably the biggest decision there is to make.”
The 50-year-old Hall just completed his 12th season at Georgia Tech (529-230), and 18th overall (737-347). He’s had 11 NCAA Tournament appearances. Georgia Tech was the College World Series runner-up in 1994, and the Yellow Jackets were fifth in 2002. Hall previously was the head coach at Kent State (1988-93). He also was an assistant at Miami, Ohio (1978-79), and Michigan (1980-87).

Byrne fired Mark Johnson after a 30-25-1 season, which included a 9-18 Big 12 finish. Johnson was 876-433 at A&M in 21 years.
Hall has not talked to Johnson about the job, but both serve on the American Baseball Coaches Committee. Hall is the current president, while Johnson is a past president, and is on the current board of directors.
“ I may have a chance to see him at some of the meetings this week in Omaha,” Hall said.
