How would you gameplan for tech?
First of all the coaches should be commended for a great play calling game last saturday. It did several things. The option passes that we executed so well will make the safeties hold back a little longer which will allow the pitch man to get positive yards for the most part. Throwing three balls to the FB will make them be honest and have a LB on him in passing situations keeping them from doubling up on some recievers. And most of all the half back pass is basically a reminder to them that Lane has a cannon and you better respect it. I'm kinda surprised we didn't fake a punt or something to keep them on edge.
That being said I think that we have to come out and just try to go over the top a couple of times just to put the secondary on it's heels that way when Lane gets running down hill if he can get past the LB's the Safeties will be further back and give him a couple of yards. I'd try to keep the ball in the middle of the field and eat that clock. This only works if you can score in someway on almost all posessions. Tech is used to high reps usually 80+ plays per game. But now they're only getting like 60ish plays a game. That hurts their offense. Think about it. They're used to running 14 or so series a game if you can just convert 5 of those into touchdowns they've got 35 points. If they run 8-9 plays they've got to convert more frequently to make their plan work.
On defense I'd have B. Newton and Arkeith and hopefully Peterson on the field as I think they're the best tacklers. I also want to see Amos on the field and say just beat them off the edge. I also wouldn't mind seeing his lanky frame being lined up like a middle lb in obvious passing downs and have him spy harrel and just get his arms up and try to knock down some passes. Other than that make them make the catch and pop em. They're not going ot run that great so make them think twice about catching it. We've also got to make Harrel jumpy. This will be his first experience with a big crowd.

On Offense I agree with you..... frankly I don't see Tech stopping us from scoring 30... I just don't see it.... But your pretty much on it.... I would just be some what careful with going deep more than once early... simply because while McGee has been good... that long pass to Franks was a bit wobbly & a bit of a floater & I wouldn't like an INT to start off... But once deep to back them up... I like it.....
On Defense.... Key #1.... always rush no LESS THAN 4.... if I see 3, 2, or 1 guy rush.... I will throw up & start looking for Torbush on the side lines... Every defense that has been successfull against Tech has always rushed, 4, 5, & sometimes 6..... Anything less & you might as well not rush anyone at all..... Our Big Boys will have to man up because our Defensive Line (IMO) will decide this game for us...... if they get 1 or 2 sacks with a few more knockdowns, we will have a good game.... if they don't & their QB gets to sit back there all day... we could have the best DB's in the history of football & it wouldn't matter... eventually WR's get open if the QB has all day..... I don't think they will beat us... but if they are going to have success through the air, I say we make their QB pay for it.....
PRESSURE IS KEY this SATURDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course you don't force those deep balls. I'm just thinking on the first play they're going to be cheating up. If they stay back you have 'tellus, lane, alexander that can all be checkoffs.

I hope so... if you look at the teams Tech has struggled against... tu, Alabama, TCU & OU... they have all been able to get pressure on the QB... none of them rush 1, 2 or 3.... They just bring the house or at least 4....
Our DE's & DT's will take center stage Saturday & will need to bring the pain!!!!!!!!

They are going to throw alot. We should tell our secondary to stay awake out there.
Just give me a call if anybody needs me as a defensive coach.

Maybe that'd be a good way to raise money for Aggiefans.com Use your time machine and insider info to place bets for or against the Ags. We'll have that new server and software in no time.

What the???? What use is a time machine if you don't find out the score? Or did you go way back in time and make sure that Mike Leach's dad wore a rubber? :)

Hell, if you're going to pay the $20 for one game, you might as well pay $100 & get the whole freaking package. I've ordered Gameplan the last 3 seasons & its been the best $100 I ever spent....well, excluding that one time in Mexico. ;)

Ah those were the days...
Can we clone Dat Nguyen too?:gig:
As far a game plans go it better involve some serious Wrecking Crew defense and, I agree, a lot of pressure on the Tech quarterback.
On offense as long as Fran doesn't appear to dust off the two page RC offensive playbook I think we'll be ok.

Gameplan for tech
Let's just copy what TCU did. It worked.

Howdy - just joined this site, and I am fresh back from another session at texastechfans.com, where my mere presence there had them bickering with each other (but still united against me!) in just a few minutes.
I was at the ttech / TCU game, and TCU's defensive scheme was brilliant. They brought their coverage up close, while rushing three or four normally. The man-to-man press / tight zone, almost right off the line took away a lot of the quick hits and slants ttech likes to run, and once the first two options in a quick slant are gone, Harrell is doomed. I was less than impressed with the ttech O line...just like the spread offense, the wide splits Leach likes so much have been exposed (finally), by using at least one of the 7 defensive backs to overload a gap. If they picked this guy up, one of the ends usually applied pressure instead - and the O line got worse as the evening progressed. In other words, they are suseptible to gap blitzes and delayed stunts.
However, if our secondary doesn't play well, then we're doomed. They must cover like glue (and for gawd sakes, not let any receivers get passed them), in order for the D line to get pressure on Harrell.
tthech also appeared to be without a running back of much consequence, and I saw no running threat from Harrell whatsoever.
ttech's defense played well but not great. I could tell that TCU had coached their QB to be very, very safe with the ball...he had several open receivers that he did not attempt to throw to, that he normally would have, as they were determined not to beat themselves. That kind of "play-not-to-lose" philosphy used to bite TCU in the butt when Fran was there, and it pains me to see Patterson fall into that mode as he does occassionally, but - scorebaord! So the lower passing yards in that game for TCU are not indicative of the normal TCU offense. A&M needs to really stress the ttech secondary, and I think some kinks in the armour will expose themselves.
Having said all that, we have our work cut out for us Saturday, no doubt, but the 12th man should help us prevail. Our Ags SHOULD be fired up more for this game than ttech, although it's pretty pivotal for both teams. I'm hoping I'm right, and the "air raid" offense has been deciphered.

Go to one of the ttech fan sites and take a gander. It's all about floppy titties and getting drunk, with an occassional football post thrown in. Great places to throw out the old Aggue "joke" about what most ttech grads call an Ag ten years they graduate.
At least a few of them over there admit that to get some cred you have to earn it.
