INDIANAPOLIS---An NCAA membership subcommittee on Friday granted a progress-toward-degree waiver for Texas Tech University football student-athlete Jarrett Hicks, making himeligible for competition.
Texas Tech sought a waiver for Hicks of NCAA progress-toward-degree requirements, and NCAA membership services staff worked with the university to determine the specifics of his situation. While initial requests for a waiver were denied, NCAA staff continued to work with the university when it requested an extension to compile additional information related to Hicks' specific situation.
Once new information was submitted by the university to the NCAA on Thursday (September 21), the Continuing Eligibility Subcommittee of the NCAA's Academic/Eligibility/Compliance Cabinet reviewed the information today and granted the waiver.
Comprised of representatives of NCAA member colleges and universities, the subcommittee was originally scheduled to meet on September 7 to review the situation, but the university asked for an extension to compile the additional information.
While it cannot divulge details because of student privacy guidelines, the NCAA subcommittee focused on the particular circumstances of the situation and the new information that was provided.

Someone find me a contact at the NCAA Clearinghouse. I'm launching an email campaign to get answers...or if nothing else to let them know that a lot of people aren't happy with the way they do things.

That is pretty crappy....makes our game with them a little more interesting (and tougher now). Do you think he'll be ready and full speed come our game?
Has he been allowed to practice with the team while this was under investigation?

Unfortunately, it won't matter becuase they are pretty much above reproach. They won't give you any details about him due to privacy, which is a good thing. I know we don't like it, but honestly, if it was La Tech trying to keep their guy, would we really care??
Besides that, he hasn't been allowed to practice with the team and I highly doubt he will up to game condition within a week.

he is a pretty good wr. he will probably be up to condition by next week, but hopefully his timing with the qb will not be up to par and timing is a key component in tech's type of offense, as far as i can tell.

Thats not the point. The point is that they allow guys like Henry Melton, Jamaal Charles into school. They allow guys like Jarrett Hicks back into school. Yet, we have guys that have done exactly what was required by the NCAA not get into school. After talking to some people that are a little closer to the situation, it was recommended that those of us who are pissed about these type of things begin emailing them on a regular basis. I've seen it happen too many times at this point, so I'm ready to start it off.

Screw that. I don't care how we win, we just need a win. I don't care if they have a TE starting at QB. I'll take all of their excuses & we can take Scoreboard. I'm not convinced yet that we're good enough to beat them as it is, last thing we need is for them to get stronger. Forget all that positive spin stuff about, "I want to beat them when they are full strength." Thats BS. I want to beat them....PERIOD!!! And them getting their best WR back doesn't help our cause in any way. JMO

Just tell Devin Gregg to hit him in the fu*king mouth over and over. That's all it takes. He won't be in football shape anyway and I'm sure his timing will be off.

Pinche, I think you will get your wish, we beat them at Kyle is my call! I think we beat them by at least a touchdown also. I watched closely when they played UTEP (surprised as hell I had that broadcast over here in WV) they look pretty suspect to me. For the first time in a while the plug the next QB in strategy doesn't seem to be working. I think we beat them, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

For those of you who think Hicks won't be in sync or in football shape...think twice...he's been practicing with the offense for the past 2 weeks and got some playing time last week. He'll be ready when he comes to Kyle.

Very well could be true. I heard something about a correspondence course being the reason for him being ruled ineligible, so that would make sense.

It's better to have Hicks back - one less thing for ttech fans to whine about. "We would have won if Hick were there!", they've been saying about the TCU game.
He and Harrell will struggle, IMO, but the Agsbetter stick to him like glue regardless. My concern with Hicks is the yards AFTER the catch, and sloppy Aggie tackling I saw against Army.

Start 'Keith Brown & JP & I don't think you have to worry too much about YAC. Those guys are solid tackelers.

Darnell said the return of Texas Tech receiver Jarrett Hicks affects game planning because it changes the Red Raiders' "hit chart" studied by coaches, which shows where they have thrown the ball to this season.

Should make for an interresting game/game plan. 1st half should be where Tceh tries to expose us w/ Hicks. We should make proper adjustments & slow him down in 2nd half. Hopefully, there won't be much of a storm to weather & we'll smack him in the mouth a few times, until he quits...or cries. I hope he cries, that would be funnier.
