Does the physical beatdown they took hurt their confidence? I would think the mental psyche of a RS fish could be hurt pretty easily.

Beating down on Rice this weekend will help alleviate that.

I don't know. Something like this finally lets them know they're human. Lucky for them the Big 12 is down again this year.

From the interviews that I saw, they were all very down (seemed alot sadder than when you see our players talk about a loss...maybe that's b/c our's have more practice..:()

they definately took a hit... they wont be challenged until the ou game and if they win that the confidence will be back up.

but all summer the only thing they heard was how much better they were than last years nc team so when you go and get whipped its going to affect the team.

I think the game had a hugh impact on TU football...they've been riding so high for so long. I think they are still very good..but not invincible..and they now know it.

The horns cannot be beaten bad enough or often enough for me.

No fanbase in the nation was in greater need of being humbled than them. Maybe their arrogance can go down a notch now that they've received their long overdue come-uppance. If we beat them this year, I will officially forgive and forget all the problems I've ever had with Franchione.

You can count me in on that, too.

Funny thing is that Rice lost to UCLA by a score of 26-16. Could Rice be better than is believed? Probably not.

Rice also should have beaten Cougar high last week, but blew a big lead. Rice is by no means a good team, but with Major Applewhite running the offense there, they are going to score some points.

I think tu's downfall will be their offense. They have a very good defense that will keep them in all their games, but you need to score more than your opponent and if they face a really good defense, they have a shot of being taken down.

That's why I think OU stands a chance, and if A&M's D gets better, A&M does too. I say tu is due one more loss (at least) this year.

its the lack of a Vince Young threat... McCoy may be a good qb (maybe not), but they need a gamebreaker like VY at qb

that's tru, but losing Selvin Young is HUGE too. He would have been the game breaker this year. they're going through the distractions that we had when on top back in the day. It seemed like there was always something there to take our eyes off the ball, many times brough on by the DMN.

I bet that McCoy comes into his own as a good QB. He has heart and has a dad for a coach, so he knows the game. it wont make any difference though if they dont get some O around him. I'm not ready to say they've fallen off the top yet, but I will be when OU beats them and then we go in and pull off an upset! If they struggle this week, the finger pointing should start! that will great to watch, if they roll, they wont get any uplift from it becasue that's what they're supposed to do.

either way, as an Aggie that grew up in a burt orange house, they cant lose enough for me!

Did you mean Ramonce Taylor? They still have Selvin Young.

Major Applewhite is the Rice offensive coordinator. I hope revenge is HIS for the whole Chris Simms thing. :gig:

Edit: Sorry P-ville, I didn't see you mention the Major thing... *shrugs*

I'm glad they lost and I'm glad their winning streak is over, Now another winning streak needs to come to an end in this state (TCU), but there is a more important streak that needs to come to an end --- TU's winning streak over the Aggies.

I hadn't heard that.

Well thats ALL i heard the few times i went back home to see my fiance this summer. It may not have been from the coaches to the players, but the fans and even some bold folks in the mediahad the occasional broad remark of, "I think we look better than last years team." I cannot remember any specific media people's names that said something along those lines, but i definately remember something like that being said on the news a few times. So, either way they hear it, the players had some sort of hype to live up to that was created by fans and media.

I honestly never heard that. Clearly, no one wanted to say that Vince was the team, and I heard them say they were looking to prove that, but I think it's a stretch to say that all anyone heard is that we'd be better.

We'd have been ranked number one, then.

Well I heard it first hand since back home is austin. Yes i was shocked. Like i say those may not have been the exact words from the local media, but it was the SAME idea, not that they needed to prove it, but that there were. And all of the people that I know that go to tu have been all high and mighty on their horse of arrogance. All i heard from them was how amazing this years team was. When arguing with a few buddies that go there, and know FB fairly well, they even said, "we dont need vince." Now, i somewhat agreed with them in the fact that they have a good defense, but never believed that they would be the same without young.

Dont think that i am just pulling this out of my (delete explative) ;), but these are first hand accounts of what was going down.

p.s. is it "explative", or something else? either way you get it.

Texags08 is right. I listen to Austin sports radio every day and listened to countless fans and media try and convince themselves that this year's team was better than last years.
