Vlyrock's Keys to Victory (What I want to see) -- I'll quote and review these after the game:
Offense:
500 yards of Total Offense (preferably 300 P/200 R)
0 Turnovers
Convert 70% of our drives with points
Win the time of possession battle
Long, sustained drives that eat up clock
Defense:
Force turnovers
Pressure and sack the QB
Let our offense start past mid-field at least once
Control Field Position all day
Don't miss tackles

Defensively the Ags need to prevent any explosive deep pass plays. I hope our secondary is up to the challenge today. My fingernails are bloody nubs at this point and I am sick of it. I hope Darnell has everything wired TIGHT as all hell. The future of the season depends on it. The schedule only gets tougher.

In case people don't know, UL-L was picked to win the Sun Belt conference, so that means they have some players -- at least compared to the other Sun Belt teams.

That being said, I think the good guys will do majordamage to the Cajuns.

Good. :D I liked using the Citadel game as a preseason game, but we need to show we can dominate an inferior opponent.
1 first down and 10 passing yards for ULaLa in the first quarter is encouraging for the defense, as well.

I just got back from the game and figured I'd offer my thoughts since I was there in person.
First of all, the Aggies dominated the Cajuns. For anybody keeping track, U LaLa only had 17 yards passing. Granted the DL and off-target QB had more to do with it than the DB's, but that's pretty good compared to what we've seen recently.
Also, the refs gave their only score to them. On that drive, ULaLa made it down to the 10 yard line where they ran a handoff up the middle. The QB, pretended it was a playaction and so the Aggie rusher (I don't remember who) hit him from behind (because you couldn't tell if he had the ball or not). The ref didn't do anything. As the play ran out, the RB fumbled it and A&M recovered. After the A&M guy was tackled, the ref then threw the flag on the ground and called an Unnecessary Roughness on A&M, giving them the ball back in which they eventually scored a touchdown.
OTher than that, A&M played a near perfect game. This can only do good things and will boost their confidence going into other games. It sounded a lot louder this game too (with less people -- only 68,000+ here tonight), but the students were in it the whole game.
Jorvorskie Lane had 4 TD's, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was named Big XII player of the week. :gig:
Dustin00whoop
09-10-2006, 12:01 PM
I doubt Lane is player of the week. While he did have 4 TDs, I think he only had 50 something yards rushing.
Anyway, this was the kind of game I expected last week. McGee was sharp. I think he completed 20-27. The running game was virtually unstoppable--even without Yemi playing. Travis Schneider looked really good in his place.
Chris Harrington has a motor that never stops. That guy was deep in the backfield the whole freaking game.
I bet we played 90 guys this week. He'll everyone freaking played.
Jamie McCoy wasn't on the sidelines last night. Anyone heard anything about this? Also, Brandon Leone didn't play. Don't know what he did to piss someone off, but if you didn't play last night you must either be hurt or in the doghouse.
Samson Taylor was the only guy that I saw get hurt. He limped off in the 4th. Looked like maybe an ankle.
I'll think of more things later & post 'em.

I will pretty much echo the above 2 posts.... but wanted to add one thing. Did anybody notice we use the normal punt formation for our one punt? I was pretty happy to see that.

somebody on texags said they saw him at freebirds 3 hrs before the game (but you have to consider the source). I bet we will know something this week when the press gets wind (because you know thats the type of info they want to get out of fran.... who cares about that football thing)
as for leone... i noticed it as well and personally i think thats where he should stay. never been a big fan of him getting carries when we have courtney lane and now goodson (which played substantially better this game).

Yeah, our one & only punt, we looked normal. And Brantly kicked that thing 58 yards. I hope that wasn't just an experiment.

Justin Warren really disappointed me. I don't know if he is still feeling the effects of his injury or what, but he looked like he was playing in concrete shoes out there. As a matter of fact, the only realy big play they had (one of the 30 QB options they ran) he had the guy squared up at the LOS, was never blocked, & completely missed the guy.
I understand he has a lot of tackles in his first two games, but tackles don't equal results. Most of his tackles have been 5 yards downfield & he is usually the 2nd or 3rd guy in. Like I said before, hopefully its just the lingering effects of his injury. But we're going to need him to be back to full speed by Tech.

We kept waiting and waiting for him to get some carries. The game was well in hand and I was happy with the attitude we played with compared to last week therefore we left to go watch the game at the bar. They had A&M on the radio so it was good stuff. An I wasn't trying to get reactions I was just saying when I left along with a few hundred people at the same time.

I would have liked to see McGee play one more drive and maybe try throwing the ball downfield some more. He looked great, but most of the his passes in the first two games have been quick 5 to 10 yard routes. Do y'all think that we are still trying to break him in or is this going to be something we do all year?

Liucci said that we don't want to score too fast. We will have a "controlled" offense and go for drives. However I think if necessary we know that we have the speed to go over the top.

Yeah, true. But as soon as Branyon goes in the game we go deep to Joey Thomas (play of the game IMO. What a catch!). Still, our offense looked great. I am a senior this year and I think this may have been the best all around game we have played since I have been here.

Probably a true statement about being the best all-around game. I think they aired it out with Branyon just to see what he could do. And actually, that ball was way underthrown. Should've been picked. But you can't fault Joey for that & he did a great job of sticking with it & hauling it in.
