Part of being an Aggie at least when I was there was to demonstrate some kind of respect towards the opposition.
I've never been opposed too singing "Poor Teasips", and it use to be a permenant fish detail for the corps to run down and try and fire off the teasips cannon. But this pointing down hook'em horns sign is completely classless and obnoxious. We have our gig'em sign, and that's were it should end. I wish the student body would show a little more class, stick with the Gig'em and whooping, leave the other stuff to the other schools.

I don't think its necessarily classless, but I do agree that its unnecessary. Why give them the recognition. Instead of doing my hand sign, I'd rather do your hand sign upsidedown? Makes no freaking sense to me.

I always thought that's what horns would look like when they were sawed off and dangling.

Never cared for it personally. I seem to remember it first being used by OU some years. That may be incorrect where it started but that's the first time I remember seeing it.

Our HS rival was the Longhorns and we used the horns down. I think less people use gig em because of pics like this...

Or maybe because they're 2%ers.
HD stole my thunder...I have a OU alum buddie who said they have the same discussion. When he was there, like when I was at A&M, you rarely(if ever) saw it. I was in Norman this week and there are as many upside down silver longhorn emblems on cars as OU stickers.
IMO, all it does is lend credibility to the thought that you have to drag down the opposition to build up your team. Weak...IMO...

I've done horns down at games against the horns, along with Gig'em. At every other event, I just do Gig'em.
It's stupid to do it on the jumbotron when we play the Citadel(which I saw many times).
It could be worse, Baylor fans did the hookem last year in both the A&M and OU games. If you think dragging the other team down is bad, live vicariously through them is worse.

The only two times I ever approved of a horns down was when Acie hit that 3 in Reed two years ago & gave the double horns down, and when Bucky did it once against them when he scored a TD. I think its acceptable in those instances because they are all kind of an "in your face" type thing. But for the fans to do it is pointless.
Well said. A player can get away with it(rarely) if he has done something spectacular in the game WHILE playing tu.
Both of those times were good examples. the over the top fan should never do it.

Every time i see the upsidedown horns i immediatly think of OU fans. i always thought that was their attempt to fit in with us and tu so they could have a hand sign.
Oh and i really hate that gay #1 finger in the air they do on their kickoffs.

It just sucks that our "symbol" is a thumbs up which EVERYONE uses and isn't even special to us anymore. I think if we shook it like the pass back it would at least seem different than just saying "YAY, thumbs up!"

Didn't Bucky do a horns up sign?
I don't care either way on the horns down. However, since it pissed off sips beyond belief, it is kinda funny.

When I was at A&M a lot of us would use the Hook'Em Horns sign but with our fingers bent down at the knuckles to represent the stubs after we had "Sawed Em Off".

That isn't the one I was talking about. It was when he was in the white unis that I was thinking of. But either way, the point is still the same. Horns up or horns down when you do something in a sporting event against them is simply saying, "in your face!"

Glad to see the aggiefans moral and ethic committee are on the job. What other fan issue needs legislating? As long as students attend universities these things are going to happen. I don't see how an inverted hookem sign is any more class less than branding the other teams mascot or ragging them in our fight song. I hate Texas, but get a grip.

I never said it was classless. I said it was pointless & that I don't understand why anyone would do it, unless they were playing in a sporting event against them. You have your opinion, I have mine. Its okay to disagree.
