Now that's a Texas football name, and i'm not talking t.u.
Kind of like Bucky Richardson, who though a coonass still had a Texas football name.

When he said "still had a Texas Football name" made me think he was talking about the more current player.

And you think a minimum score of 800 on the SAT is a good thing? Sorry, but this is a university, and academics should always come first. We may be a ways away from Rice, But I think the school has improved from the so called good ol days. Just my opinion though, and I want to look back at my college days and realize that I still needed a brain to get in.

TAMU is a state university, as is t.u. It is criminal that if you aren't in the top 10% of your high school class they tell you not to waste your $50 application fee.
It shouldn't be so difficult to get into a state school, now staying in it is a different story.
I read an article several years ago were a young lady who went to Bellaire High School, which is a magnet school for languages in Houston, wasn't in the top ten percent, but she blew her sat's out of the water, but could not get into t.u., or TAMU, but was accepted at Stanford. Now explain how this is a good thing.

First of all you dont have to be in top 10% to get in here.
I finished like 250/600with a 1090 SAT and got in easy. Although they nevr got my 1210 SAT.
My Fiance finished top 20% and got in with no essay and a sub 900 SAT.

There are always going to be exceptions and people that slip through the cracks, but universities have to change with the times and not be stuck in the 1980's. That includes raising the bar to get in every few years. Universities are about progress, not regress or stagnation. A&M is a dynamic university and on the cutting edge of many things (cloning) and also one of the schools listed in the Association of American Univeristies which only recognizes 34 public schools nationally. That wouldn't of happened 20 years ago.

Twenty years ago, more National Merit scholars attended TAMU than any other school, so don't go there.
So you think it's a good thing that they are trying to turn TAMU into another Berkley???

I hate Vision 20/20 for most every aspect of it especially in downplaying traditions and basically turning A&M into any other university, but I don't think we shouldn't raise our level of academic competitiveness. But what do I know? I’m not a “real Aggie,” I’m from the city, and I'm the proudest member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 2007.

Not to worry, Amy. Anyone who goes so far to want to exclude everyone from his definition of being an Aggie and claims to be so meticulous about presentation should at least be able to spell and/or run a spell checker.
I'm glad to know that this supposed Ag won't have kids enrolled with mine. Such negative and self-serving attitudes from Old or New Army do not represent the Aggie spirit.
What a tosser.

To get back on topic, have y'all heard Colt McCoy talk. He sounds like a mix between an Arkansas Hillbilly & Forrest Gump. Dude is definitely a 'neck.

I don't know about that, macduff. I've known a lot of grass smoking rednecks in my day. They usually grow it themselves--see the state of Kentucky's largest cash crop.

I agree with Booze, A&M should not restrict it's admissions to the top 10%. Making it difficult to graduate is a much better approach. Berkeley sucks. I hope A&M is never a berkely or rice. Our campus is unique and restricting it to just eggheads is ludicrous. There has to be a better way to enhance A&M's prowess without restricting normal people. If you know anything about stats, 68% of us are average or normal. above and below this range is either really smart or really challenged (abnormal). There's some intellect for you.

I definately agree. I don't care what year you graduated or how you feel about what a true Aggie is. Those are your personal beliefs and you're more than welcome to share them with all of us b/c of that little free speech amendment thing, but you took it a little far in my opinion with the Bonfire comment. You can tell everybody in the world that never wore a "uniform" that they aren't Aggies, but at least you could have a little respect for the 12 that lost their lives.
