In a surprise move yesterday, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton called for "most of the country" to return to a speed limit of 55 mph in an effort to slash fuel consumption.

People that want or need to drive fast are going to do so regardless of what the speed limit is. It won't save on fuel consumption. It will only increase the number of speeding tickets. And those that are concerned about fuel consumption will drive slower regardless of the speed limit. There is no need for the government to get involved.
