How I came up with this formula:
*Only sports that had Big12 championships (so Equestrian, Men's gymnastics, bowling, archery, skiing were not counted)
*Each sport is weighed equally.
*Only Big12 standings/results are counted. No non-conference or NCAA seedings/results are figured in.
*Took regular season standings for these sports:
Football, M/W Basketball, M/W Tennis, Soccer, Volleyball, Baseball/softball (used current standings)
*Took Big12 championship/tourney results for these sports
M/W Cross Country, M/W Golf, M/W Swim-Dive, M/W Indoor T&F, M/W Golf, W-Gymnastics, Wrestling
*M/W Outdoor T&F not counted in standings
*Gave points from high to low based on ranking
-1st place=12 pts; 2nd place=11, 3rd place=10....12th place=1
-For ties, I gave each team the higher points (1st place =12 pts, T-2=11 pts to each team; 3rd - 9 pts)
*For sports with less than 12 teams competing, I weighed the rankings
Took 12/(number of teams competing) * place
Example: Wrestling has 5 teams. Iowa State finished 4th so they got 4.80 pts (This seems more accurate than ranking from 12-8 or ranking from 5-1)
*Sports with less than 12 teams
11- Volleyball, Soccer
10 - Baseball, Softball
8 - M-Tennis
6 - W-Swim/dive
5 - Wrestling
4- W-Gymnastics
3 - M-Swim/dive
*Totaled up all earned points and divided by sports that each school completes in
18 sports - Missouri, Nebraska
17 - Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M
16 - Iowa State
15 - Baylor, Kansas, Ok. State, Texas Tech
14 - Colorado
12 - Kansas State
