In coaching staff salaries:

Alabama appears to be saving some serious coin at #21.

I'll add the part that you would get flamed at for saying.

1. Auburn - Undefeated Season
2. texas - MNC
3. Tenn - two 10 win seasons and SEC champ
4. A&M - ......................................... :(
5. LSU - MNC

In the last 5 years.

Fulmer's probably still gettin' paid from his NC going back a few years.

This was also interesting:

While Alabama was No. 21 -- the only other SEC team in the top 25 -- the Tide ranked fourth nationally in terms of producing revenue from football after expenses. Its football profit was listed as $28.8 million, behind Texas, Georgia and Michigan. Auburn was ninth, with a football profit of about $24.2 million.
When other sports are included, Georgia led the nation with the best financial showing of an overall athletic department, finishing $23 million in the black. Alabama was ninth at $5.2 million and Auburn 72nd with a $121,815 surplus.

Texas brings home a nice chunk of change but Michigan probably is one of the better run programs financially in the country. Since they tend to hire homegrown coaching prospects and its such a great job they don't have to pay the coaching staff to keep up with the top five.

At least for now with Lloyd Carr, money isn't an issue at all.

Pete Carroll, Joe Paterno, Larry Coker, Bob Stoops and Bobby Bowden make less money than Fran. Something is seriously wrong with that.

Probably huge losses from women's athletics. Those are a drain on every major university's profits.

Yesterday Alabama released this statement:

"Trustees officially approved a new contract for University of Alabama football coach Mike Shula Wednesday morning.

Overall, Shula will make $1.55 million a year, up from $900,000. The raise puts him in the top half of Southeastern Conference head Director of Athletics Mal Moore told the trustee compensation committee in a conference call."

I guess 10 wins equals big raise.
