That home, residents would tell you, was where Reggie Bush's family lived.
That is, until this weekend, when the family abruptly packed up and vacated the residence – less than 24 hours after Yahoo! Sports approached Bush's mother about information linking the property to Michael Michaels, a man who is alleged to have tried to play a role in steering Bush toward an agent and who also has ties to a sports marketing company.
Days before Bush is expected to be the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, unanswered questions about the residence and how his mother, stepfather and brother came to live in it within the last year have prompted the University of Southern California to refer the matter to the Pacific-10 Conference for an investigation.

An MVP type player getting that kind of benefit is going to be a real problem for USC. Which is a shame for them since I don't think Carroll is a cheater and I think they could have won without him. He would kicked him off the team if he'd known.
But, everyone in the media proclaimed him the best, and if the best should have been ineligible that sounds like forfieture should be coming to me.
The question is what will the Downtown Athletic Club do with his award? Has the Heisman ever gone to someone later declared to be ineligible? I realize it's separate from the NCAA but it is still an amateur award. Unless the DAC wants a major black eye, I think they've got to vacate that award.

College football is all about this...
http://home.sport.rr.com/gregsgraphics/moneyflipp.gif
80, 90, 100 thousand seat stadiums at $75 per seat, plus the lodging, eating, etc... bring immeasurable amounts of income to cities like Ann Arbor, Athens, Knoxville, South Bend, Columbus, Gainesville, Austin, and yes, College Station.
The pressure to win is crazy.
To think that a little cheating isn't going on is foolish. Like the old saying, "If you're not cheating, you're not trying, and it's only cheating if you get caught."

Buckeye speaks the truth. I can't agree more with you
oh and Cali, here's something from ESPN about the Heisman:
The director of the Heisman Trophy Trust told ESPN's Joe Schad on Monday that he will reach out to board members to determine the potential ramifications of an investigation involving 2005 winner Reggie Bush.
"We're doing some soul searching ourselves right now," Rob Whalen said. "To the best of my knowledge no one has ever had a Heisman Trophy revoked."
Whalen said he's already begun to receive e-mails from Texas fans who believe runner up Vince Young should now receive the trophy. "Clearly that's premature," Whalen said. "Let's see what happens and how this plays out." The official Heisman ballot includes this wording: "In order that there will be no misunderstanding regarding the eligibility of a candidate, the recepient of the award MUST be a bonafide student of an accredited university. The recepient must be in compliance with the bylaws defining an NCAA student."

If the season was over, then there's not much that can be done. It's like Vince charging $100 for his autograph after the Rose Bowl in Houston. He's no longer a student-athlete at that point (because he was going pro).
Now, about Vince Young getting the Heisman -- what's the point now? I don't see why he'd want it...he still finished second behind Bush in the voting. The record books would still have asterisks next to it and it wouldn't mean as much as winning it outright. I mean, if it was like performance enhancing drugs or something Bush took that would cause him to lose it, that's one thing (and one situation where I could say Young should take it). But his family living in a house didn't affect his on field plays and Bush won it because of that...just my .02 cents and we all know it's usually not even worth that.

I wasn't trying to make fun of him...I was just pointing out that it wouldn't be taken away based on performance related (or on the field) infractions, so being awarded it by default is probably just not that cool (or something he would want).

The season wasn't over though.
His folks lived there all year last year. Since last March/ April.
That makes him ineligible for the year.

I didn't say I wanted them to offer it to him, and if they did I hope he'd tell them to shove their meaningless award.

See, this is where we disagree. Amateurism is the essence of college athletics. If Reggie is being paid to play football, that award is not proper. The Heisman committee understands that.
They also understand that the kid flat out got upstaged in the Rose Bowl along with last year's Heisman winner.
