Ags Complete Trifecta With Removal of Johnson
The Texas A&M athletic department announced Monday that baseball coach Mark Johnson would be stepping down after the disappointing season that saw an Aggie team, once ranked as high as #8, finish 9th in the Big XII and miss the Big XII tournament since its inception.
With Johnson's removal, the Ags have completed a clean sweep of the 3 main men's sports in the last 3 years. It started when R.C. Slocum was replaced with Football Head Coach Dennis Franchione two years ago. Last year, Billy Gillespie stepped in and filled Melvin Watkin's shoes as basketball coach. Now, some yet to be named person will come in and guide the Ags Baseball team next season. The site of a new coach in baseball will be something most current Ags can't remember ever seeing. Coach Johnson coached the Ags for 21 season (1985-2005) compiling a record of 876-433-3 (.669).
We want to take this opportunity to say, "Thanks Coach Johnson for everything you did for the program. We wish you the best of luck in whatever you decide to do next."
