During dinner, the conversation that truly gets Rodriguez animated pertains not to the powerful buzz building around his sixth West Virginia team. Nor does it pertain to the steady stream of coaches from other schools who have visited this spring, cribbing ideas from one of America's foremost practitioners of the spread offense. (Dennis Franchione and the Texas A&M offensive staff were in Morgantown last Wednesday, and about 850 high school coaches came in from all over the nation for their clinic.)

WTF....quit trying to impliment a successful coache's offense every single year. At one point, it was Tenn. Then it was Urban Meyer. Now its Rich Rodriguez.
You know, if you aren't a great offensive mind & you can't come up with your own system. Fine!!! If the coach that you're stealing your offense from doesn't mind, then why should I? But for crying out loud, do we have to switch our offensive game plan every single year?

I agree.... switching systems every year also stunts the growth of a QB....
Also this further makes me want Fran to go.... He had an offense that averaged 200 plus passing & rushing & was in the top 20 out of 117 schools... and he is going else where to find new offensive ideas..... I don't like that... what needs his attention is the Defense.... yeah he brought in GD, but the Head Coach needs to breath down the weakness of a team & right now that is the defense & not the offense....
Our Offense scored more & averaged more yardage than West Virginia.... Had we had a defense ranked somewhere around 40 to 60 last season at a minimum... we would have won against Clemson, "tu", OU... Fran is looking for help in the wrong areas.

Your offense put up massive yards in a handful of games you didn't need them in. For the most part you guys couldn't score when you needed to. Go look at the final scores of your games.
Your OC should have been fired. Going to check out WV's offense isn't the answer though, and I'd be really worried that Fran did this.
Your offense should be a product of what works best with the talent you have. And, you should recruit talent to fill the holes you need to run that offense. Just picking up someone else's system and trying to run it because it worked for them doesn't make any sense.
These "system" coaches have to get very lucky in recruiting to stay on top because if the right personnel isn't out there or doesn't want to come to your school, you're screwed. You're better off changing your offense every few years to accommodate the talent you've got.

Every few years I can understand.... but ever since Fran landed here, no two years have never seen the same system twice back to back.
Which is where I put the majority, not all, of the blame for McNeil's inconsistency.

It wasn't the changes in offense that killed you, it was that none of them were tailored to the players he had.
When you have a coach come in and start talking about a "plan" and a "system" red flags should go up. There should only be one plan and one system: winning.
Too many Ags made the "system" excuse for Fran.

No need to cry about it yet...maybe he's just looking for parts he can implement...nobody knows that Fran is going to do a complete switch. If we can use part of the offensive playbook, I'm okay with that.

Crap, I just want the offense to be effective-which translates to scoring a lot in every game.

That sucker should of dropped by since I live in West Virginia now. On a serious note, what he needs to do is stop worrying about the offense and start touring the country for the top defense and get ideas from them. Seemed to me that was the biggest problem.
