I'm in Lubbock for Easter (I know, its sucks.) But I just saw on the local news that tech tied in their game today. How in the hell do you have a tie in baseball? They were playing in Lubbock & it didn't rain here, so the game wasn't called because of rain. It has to be something in the rules. Anyone know?
On top of that, I just saw their field for the first time. It has to be the dumbest looking thing in all of baseball. The infield is artificial turf (the old school stuff...not the turf grass) & the outfield is natural grass. Leave it to the sand fleas to do something like that.

If it was a non-conference game after a certain amount of innings it ends in a tie. If it was a conference game I don't know why it was a tie.
I think Tech is planning on building a new stadium, which is why the College Baseball Hall of Fame is going to be in Lubbock (which is retarded, I think).

Yeah, sorry. I should've said that. They were either playing Kansas or K-State, so it was a conference game.
And they are planning on building a new stadium, but that still doesn't change the fact that the current field is stupid.

It had to do with big 12 conference travel policy.

That is true. I've played on that field and it is crazy. I played center and left field in HS so when you would run out of the dugout, it was grass, turf, dirt, grass. Really weird. There is another stadium somewhere that has the same thing, I can't remember where though.
Damn, the Tech defense had 6 ERRORS??? My lawd, are they that retarded?

I think Wichita State has something goofy like that.

Yep. Eck Stadium is supposedly one of the nicest collegiate stadiums in the nation and rom the looks of these pictures it is. Except for the infield turf and outfield grass which you can see in the last picture.

i thought they did that to their field because of the scarce amount of grass available in that dirt hole they call lubbock? ;)

The shockers field looks nice...but I agree...what's with the turf?

Cost of the turf to install/maintain vs cost of planting rye grass over the bermuda turf every year. You save money over the life of an artificial turf outfield.

The game was called a tie so that K-State could make a pre-arranged flight home. That's the travel policy that caused the game to end in a tie.

I'm too lazy. And I know that the game was called because K-State had to make a plane. But what if it was a long game & they were in the 8th...would they have called it then? Thats what I'm asking...what is the actual rule?
