This is the deepest field of NFL-caliber QBs that I can remember enter the NFL draft all at once.
Obviously, you have the superstar Matt Leinart. Then, also likely top 10 picks Vince Young and Jay Cutler. But, there are an abundance of QBs who could have great careers as QBs in the NFL.
Matt Leinart (USC)
Jay Cutler (Vanderbilt)
Vince Young (texas)
Brodie Croyle (Alabama)
Reggie McNeal (Texas A&M)
Charlie Whitehurst (Clemson)
Drew Olson (UCLA)
Michael Vick (Virginia Tech)
Bruce Gradkowski (Toledo)
Omar Jacobs (Bowling Green)
Kellen Clemens (Oregon)
Darrell Hackney (UAB)
Paul Pinegar (Fresno State)
Brandon Kirsch (Purdue)
Barrick Nealy (Texas State)
DJ Shockley (Georgia)
Brett Basanez (Northwestern)
Rick Clausen (Tennessee)
Joel Klatt (Colorado)
Justin Holland (Colorado State)
Brad Smith (Missouri)
Michael Robinson (Penn State)
If there are doubts about Carr, the Texans can seriously draft a QB on day 2 who could immediately put pressure on Carr. We could steal Reggie McNeal or Charlie Whitehurst with the 3rd round pick.
Just think, if Reggie entered the 2005 draft, he would have been a 2nd round pick at the latest. Now, he's possibly looking at day 2. Same thing can be said about Omar Jacobs. Matt Leinart would've been the #1 overall pick last year, but now he'll be #2 or #3(sounds simple, but that's millions of dollars).
Some of these QBs will be busts(Cutler and Vick immediately come to mind), but some teams are going to get career starters in the late rounds. This draft will be interesting(much deeper than last year's draft, and not just at QB).
