The one that was involved in bribing a highschool coach to get a top recruit to sign with the tide. From the discription the scence sounds gruesome.

While police waited for fingerprints and dental records to identify the body, Nashville defense attorney Jim Neal confirmed the victim was Young.

If they have the body and are still waiting on this...then you know it was gruesome.

Alabama football rolls hard! Maybe Coach Fran and his boys had a good reason for leaving. This looks like a scene straight out of "Goodfellas".

Higher up cash cows errrrrrrrrrrrrrr......boosters looking to get rid of a loose cannon with a big mouth?

This story has ugly written all over it.

I really don't know what to say to this but that it isn't good. I love football as much as the next guy, but if the murder is a result of keeping mouths shut or anyway related to football that is horrible.

No problem here rock. This story could be bigger than the steroid issue in baseball, and should be. An Alabama supporter with more money than God, a loud mouth, who served time in a federal jail for shoving $$$$ under the table to bring recruits to Tuscaloosa, and is now found in in a horrific murder scene?

I may be wrong, but 1+2 has always equaled 3.

It's over a game...that's the worst part. I love football -- with a passion...but it's not worth killing over. If he was going to name names, and bring people down, and cause financial ruin to families, etc...then it transcends football and reverts back to days of hits and the mob -- but if it was just because of what he did as a booster, then I feel sorry for the person who's low enough to do this to him.

Vly, I think your mob theory may have some merit.

Alabama Football has recovered from the scandal and won the Cotton Bowl last year, the scandal in 2000 has little or no affect on recruiting now. A murder over the NCAA sanctions at this point is nothing but worthless revenge. It would be like an Aggie fan murdering the former booster who was caught overpaying players for summer jobs, resulting in the 1994 probation(a violation that Ohio State is still getting away with to this day).

Yeah, but what if he knew about other violations since the one he committed & he was black-mailing other boosters to keep from ratting them out. They probably just got tired of it & decided to solve the problem. ;)

After reading this story though, I get the impression that maybe this was a father/son dispute that ended in tragedy.

Wonder if 'Bama is regretting this...
Young told ESPN.com in October that the university also cut ties with a life insurance policy that would have paid $500,000 to Alabama upon his death. The money, he said, was earmarked for the Paul "Bear" Bryant Museum on the Tuscaloosa campus.
"At my death, they got a half million [dollars]," Young said. "So they canceled that. I got banned, and that was the end of it."

I thought getting the son's fingerprints were just to rule his prints out of others they may find.

I didn't think they'd found a motive yet. Given the guy's past history of cheating as a booster, there's a good chance he royally pissed someone off in another aspect of his life. The killer may not even know college football exists.

From a man who was brutally murdered to someone who fell and hit his head?

C'mon now!! The rug has been lifted and the broom activated.

Ain't it the truth! I guess he accidentally beat himself to death. But all true Tide fans know Phil Fulmer is behind this :)

I knew Mack used to coach in NC, but he must be really powerful to pull off a cover-up of this magnitude in Memphis, TN. I mean, seriously, who else have you heard of that could pull this off.

I couldn't believe what I was reading when I read this story last night, an ACCIDENT! are you kidding me:huh: They expect us to believe this guy slipped hit his head, was bleeding profusely, probably lost consciousness, then got up, walked to several rooms, tried to stop the bleeding with towels, PASSED BY SEVERAL PHONES, BUT NEVER CALLED 911! This ranks up there with the crazyiest things I've ever heard! Wow, and that is an understatement.

He died in Tennessee Volunteer country...whoever did it probably got season tickets to the Vols next year and they covered it up.

Tell me...if he only hit his head on the iron railing -- why did they need fingerprints and dental records to identify him? Surely he would've been recognizable with a gash in his head or not.
