well, since we went in to the war in iraq, we actually joined OPEC. i am pretty sure of this. there was some kind of deal we had to make with them when we went in and took control of iraq that we had to join the cartel and it is the first time in our nations history we are affiliated with any form of a cartel. but obviously it has not helped our gas price situation. i think really the only thing we can do to alleviate the problem is to become as self suffeciant as possible. that means building more refineries, since our country has not built any new refineries since the 1970's, and also to drill more of our own oil and gas. of couse everyone knows of the reserve in alaska but there is also another one in colorado, utah, and wyoming that contains enough oil and gas for the nation to be self suffecient for the next 20 years i think. but we can not drill there because all of the tree huggers think it would be too harmful for the enviornment. but what they do not realize is that the rig sites only take up a very small fraction of acreage, compared to the area, and it would do nothing to disrupt the enviornment. it is a long battle, and only time will tell if we will ever be able to be self sufficient. people need to open up the damn eyes and quit looking at these issues so one sided.

Went to Wal-Mart yesterday and went to the automotive section and was looking at the Oil aisle and there a sign hanging from the shelves that read
"Due to our suppliers gathering raw materials we are experienceing a shortage in oil products"
And the shelves were some what picked over

My philosophy is & always has been, "if there is oil in the ground, get it out!"

Can't we just take over the Persian Gulf? Instead of helping people why don't we just start bombing and nuking **** and just own all the oil?

We just need to do it.

I am with Dustin on this one. If it is there, get it out!!! The hell with these environmental groups. Congress needs to find some balls (we all know that won't happen) and do what needs to be done.

I think we just need to change from oil to something else we can produce cheaper, more efficient, and safer for the environment. We aren't that far off actually, but we need a more concentrated effort. Pretty much everyone agrees that we should do that, people are just a little apprehensive at the moment. In the meantime, we need to start stealing oil from other countries. I mean, does china really need cars? NO

the problem with making fuel from other natural resources such as corn and soy is the beuracratic ties with the oil companies in dc. they do not want to piss off the oil companies so that is hampering the effort to make cleaner, better burning fuels from our own country's crops. it would be great if we did, especially for the farmers in our country.

If you have a diesel car or truck, you can now make your own diesel.
You can buy a kit for about $3000 that will convert used frying oil into diesel. It takes a couple of hours, and ends up costing about $0.70 a gallon for the additives (any restaurant will be happy to give you their oil). You get better gas mileage and more power, but your exhaust smells like a greasy french fry. So if you drive a lot and have some extra time on your hands, it might be worth looking into since fuel prices are projected to be so high.

i like the idea of Hydrogen but the cost to build a vehicle is sky high
and since hydrogen is in everything you could turn anyhting in to fuel like on Back to the Future's Mr. Fusion
