We are in the early planning stages on next years contest and wanted to get some input... first and foremost (what type of contest do people want)

Basically I found a script which looks like its going to work very well for the contest (vs trying to fix out existing one). But we need to know if people want to have a contest like last year (factoring in the odds, which this program will be able to do... just dont know how it factors them in exactly) or have your rank all the games and count your score by number of correct?

And let me state for the record the first option will be MUCH MUCH easier to do as the contest already supports that kind of pool.... we would "modify" that script to do the rankings if thats the way people want to see the contest done.

Also we are starting to look for prizes for the contest next fall so any suggestions there would be nice (since we have more people here now anybody who "works" around town in any of the restruants etc see if your managers would be willing do "donate" anything to the contest). I dont know if we are going to get as many nice prizes as we had last year but we will see. Also if anybody would like to help find prizes (i still never found out how they scored those pebble creek packages last year) let vly know.

Standard would be good. I'd also like to see us pick'em against the line instead of straight up(like Yahoo! does).

Also, I'd be willing to donate a Chris Cole (former Aggie WR) NFL rookie card that is autographed. I bought one of him in his A&M uniform and the auction included an extra one that had the Denver Broncos logo on it. I'd be willing to donate that Broncos one as a prize.

well the standard way will factor in the odds somehow.... just not sure how it does it. we wont know until we get the program.

Here is the program in action: http://www.sectalk.com/boards/vbpool.php? (you cant see much of it w/o registering though)

From the site who has this scripts on how it plays against the spread...

Playing against the spread

Some Pools will be listed as "against the spread". When you see this, you know that picking a winner in those games requires taking into account the spread. When viewing the list of games, you will notice a spread number listed in the far right column. This is a number that will be added (or subtracted, if negative) from the visiting team's score. The winner is calculated after the visiting team's score has been adjusted.
In Pool's listed as against the spread, the winner of a game may not be the team with the most real points. Therefore, you must make your choice of winner by calculating whether the visiting team will have the most points after that team's score is adjusted by the spread. Pool's that are not against the spread ("straight up") will have the winner determined by number of real points scored in the game.
Examples:

Team A is visiting Team D. The spread is 4.5. Team A's score will have 4.5 points added at the conclusion of the game. The final score is A:10, D:15. The adjusted score is A:14.5, D:15. Team D is the straight up and spread winner. (Team D has "covered the spread".)
Team C is visiting Team B. The spread is -3. Team C's score will have 3 points subtracted at the conclusion of the game. The final score is C:20, B:18. The adjusted score is C:17, B:18. Team C is the straight up winner, but team B is the spread winner.
Team E is visiting Team F. The spread is 2. Team E's score will have 2 points added at the conclusion of the game. The final score is E:15, F:17. The adjusted score is E:17, F:17. Team F is the straight up winner, but the spread game ends in a tie. Ties

Games that end in a tie count as a point to each pick.

Probably stuff similar to what we had last year. Of course, I don't remember much of what we had anymore.
