I think it's shaky if they don't have a good year (not that it's likely) but if them winning the National Championship bumped them up big...if they don't play well this year, he may change -- he can't sign a LOI until February.

He's not going to renege. If you heard the press conference, you'd know that he and his family are solid folks. They'll keep their word, unlike some cajun rednecks. If anything, a season of struggle would only cement his commitment, as it'll make it easier for him to get the starting role.

Wow!!! I love how Sessamoid knows what is going on inside the head of an 18 year old kid & that he can tell the quality of his parents by listening to them talk for a few minutes.

It's as easy for him to know that as it is for vly to know that the kind will bag off if we lose a couple of games.

Besides, there's been a lot written about these folks. No reason to believe for now that the kid is going to break his word.

Vly didn't say he would change. He simply stated that there was a possibility that he could change if the sips had a bad season.

There is a huge difference between stating a possibility & saying, "He won't renege," or "they'll keep their word."

You know better than to try & slip that by me, Cali!

He said he thinks it's shaky. How could he know that without reading the kid's mind? Maybe the kid is rock solid.

Both are guessing based on what information is out there.

Fact is, this kid has said all the right things. He wants to redshirt, and he's okay with competition. Two things you know who wasn't going for.

Also, recruits now know Mack can win the big one. He'd been close many times and now he's done it. One season away from the National Championship, if that happens, isn't going to change things. Not when players love playing for Mack as much as they do.

Based on this statement, I said it could be shaky.
"Texas was already in the mix," Brantley said. "(Winning the national championship) bumped them up that much more."
What happens if one of the other teams in the mix wins the National Championship this year? Say a team closer to home like Florida...that might make Texas look a little less unappealing (possibly)...

It was just an idea thrown out since he seems to use the current status of the program as an indicator.

Since there's a pretty fair chance some other team will win the national title--no team has great odds against the field--I'd say the kid recognizes that possibility.

That Mack won a national title erases a lot of doubt in a lot of recruits' minds.

The kid wasn't saying that was the only reason he was coming, just that it played a role. Anyway, for all you know that could have been in response to the question--"what effect did Texas winning the national title have on your decision?"

How could you possibly answer that without mentioning that it had some positive effect without sounding like a complete fraud?

Calihornia's the only consistent Horns poster...he likes to fan flames sometimes, but every once in a while he'll make a really good post. Most of them are objective -- some are just flames...learn to look past those ones and he says good stuff sometimes.

More often than not he tries to argue without ever touching the actual topics at hand. But he is an attorney, so what can you expect?
