A MESSAGE TO THE CLASS OF 1988 FROM BILL BYRNE, TEXAS A&M ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
HOWDY!
I want to take just a moment of your time to announce some exciting news to the Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 1988. The Texas A&M Athletic Department is renovating Kyle Field by adding college athletics' largest video board, sound system and fascia boards for the 2006 football season. This will address the long-standing recommendation by Aggies, Former Students, and Texas A&M fans for an upgrade to the sound system and scoreboard at Kyle Field. These enhancements will also aid in our recruiting efforts.
Why am I writing you? The renovations to Kyle Field will require the relocation of The Class of 1988 Class Gift (the lettering at Kyle Field which reads "Welcome to Aggieland" and "Home of the 12th Man"). The lettering will be moved up one level to the fascia on the third deck, with "Welcome to Aggieland" on the west side (Former Students' side) and "Home of the 12th Man" moving up one deck on the east side of Kyle Field (see photos).
How did we arrive at this decision you ask? With the advice and counsel of your Class Agents, of course. After reviewing many options, they assisted in making the decision of placing the "Welcome to Aggieland" lettering on the west (Former Students') side. Fans of the visiting team sit near the visiting dressing room on the east side and they will be greeted with "Welcome to Aggieland" while looking at the west side. "Home of the 12th Man" will remain on the east side - the side where the current students stand and where it will remain readily available for network television and other media exposure. This also allows for the Class of '88 Class Gift to encompass both sides of Kyle Field.
One of the things I have tried to do in my three years here is immerse myself in Aggie traditions and history, and your time at A&M was indeed golden-three SWC championships, three Cotton Bowls, and four victories over our friends in the State Capital. When you couple that with your wonderful Class Gift, you and your classmates truly stand out in Aggie history. We feel confident that the upgrades to Kyle Field will enhance the tradition and pageantry that is the core of the Aggieland Gameday experience.
Thanks again for your help as together we move ahead to Build Champions at Texas A&M.
Gig 'em!

Humm, I thought they were going to put it side by side. I guess the National Championship sign is gone for good then...
