Top 100 Heisman hopefuls for 2005 according to FSN.

1. QB Matt Leinart, USC — Unlike Jason White in 2004, Leinart will defend his Heisman crown with a full head of steam and the unanimous respect of the voters. The loss of offensive coordinator Norm Chow will be offset by a receiving corps that's light years better than it was nine months ago.

2. QB Vince Young, Texas — Young's Heisman campaign began in Pasadena three months ago, when he authored one of the great individual efforts in ‘Horn history. Early season encounters with Ohio State and Oklahoma afford him the platform to go toe-to-toe with Leinart.

3. RB Adrian Peterson, Oklahoma — Peterson is already the most complete back in the college game, but a reshuffled line and an inexperienced quarterback could make yards a wee bit tougher to come by this fall.

4. RB Reggie Bush, USC — If the Heisman championed college football's Most Entertaining or Most Dangerous player, some ballots might already be cast. Bush is college football's ultimate weapon, who can do everything, except, perhaps, convince Heisman voters he's the most valuable player on his own team.

5. QB Chris Leak, Florida — Leak is not the letter-perfect quarterback to run Urban Meyer's read-option attack, but the coach is wise enough to install a playbook that'll get the most out of his junior's deep reservoir of talent. Meyer was a starmaker for his last two quarterbacks, and Leak was already on the All-American doorstep.

6. WR Ted Ginn, Jr., Ohio State — The mercurial and multi-faceted Ginn is on the tarmac, and preparing for lift-off in 2005. He'll challenge Bush as the most electrifying player in America.

7. QB Drew Tate, Iowa — Tate was thrust into an impossible situation in 2004, and he responded by being named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year. With a running game to balance the offense and a Top 10 team to attract attention, the Hawkeyes could have their second Heisman finalist in four years.

8. QB Reggie McNeal, Texas A&M — To the dismay of the rest of the Big XII, McNeal keeps maturing into a complete quarterback. If he can continue honing his passing skills and engineer an upset of either Oklahoma or Texas in November, he'll mount a stiff challenge.

Naming 100 seems like overkill.

Surely he doesn't believe that a DT is the 80th best Heisman Candidate. I'd even put DeQawn Mobley or Courtney Lewis before a DT.

Chris Leak?

They only have him on there because of Urban Meyer's offense. Nobody knows if he'll do well in it or not. It's one of those, "Alex Smith did well, so he probably will too."

I know, I know.

I just laugh at how high UF is being ranked by so many.

No D whatsoever yet they are expected to kill everyone.

UF will be 8-3

Is it just me or has the Florida rivalries lost their appeal?

I use to make sure I watched the FSU/Florida game, then FSU/Miami but now that all the programs have dropped off, I could really care less (not to mention FSU/Miami playing 3 straight games against each other between last season and the season before was ridiculous)...

I don't think the UF/FSU rivalry has lost its appeal in the South but nationally it has dwindled.

I am sure UF will now become a consistent 9-10 win team and it will bring it back.

I think the Heisman is going to come down between Peterson and Leinart if the season doesn't plan out like us Ags hope. I think an inexperienced Qb actually helps Adrian it means hes going to get the ball even more and it will give him more times to make defenders look like they should have stayed in HS for a couple more years or to start taking steriods or something. Unless Leinart just comes out and pulls an Orton I see no reason why he won't be in New York at the end of the year. VY is overrated enough said.

I still believe that Leinhart is going to fall quite far with Chow.

Hence why I said pulls an Orton.

I wasn't referring to you whatsoever but the constant Heisman predictions for him.

Ya I know but I'm really bored and felt like responding.

I agree, I think even if he has a mediocre season he may still get invited to NY only because of the hype surrounding him.

I'm not sure who the front runners are beside Adrian Peterson and Reggie Bush.

If Reggie doesn't win it, I would like to see a guy like Josh Harris win it at Bowling Green. That would do wonders for a small program like that.

Alex Smith had insane #'s and went undefeated and still didn't win it.

I can't imagine a non-BCS type player winning it.

I think he can just because he's coming in with hype. He put insane #'s last year and didn't get love. 2 consecutive years of those numbers will garner attention. And if there's no other clear front runner (i.e. AP separates his shoulder or just sucks, Leinart declines, Reggie can't put up Heisman numbers) - then he stands a chance. Or at least he'll get an invite to the ceremonies...(like Rothlesbergae.r.,ajdflsd)

Here's Bowling Green's schedule:

09/03 at Wisconsin TBD
09/10 at Ball St 8:00 PM
09/21 at Boise St 10:00 PM
10/01 Temple 4:00 PM
10/08 Ohio 6:00 PM
10/15 at Buffalo 1:30 PM
10/22 W Michigan 4:00 PM
10/29 Akron 4:00 PM
11/05 at Kent St 1:00 PM
11/15 at Miami (OH) 7:00 PM
11/22 Toledo 7:00 PM

Two tough contests (opening game at Wisconsin, then at Boise State). If he shows well in both of those, he'll do okay in the Heisman race. The rest of the season against the crappy MAC opponents doesn't matter.
