A good friend of mine works with a bunch of Ags...They tell me that they have heard that Martellus Bennett may not play football at all and play only hoops...Anybody heard anything about that?

I honestly haven't heard anything about it. I do know that if he didn't play football, he would be screwing up BG's scholarships. Bennett could play basketball while using a football scholarship. With the limited scholarships on basketball, it mess up a lot of stuff.

I think the media/this board/and Texags would be all over it if it were true that Bennett was only playing basketball.

Welcome to the board KatyJay, always good to have a new member to start new discussions or provide his/her input on other threads. I seriously don't think Tellus would stick with just BB. As Vly said, Fran is paying his way right now so he will play football. He said himself during the recruiting process that he was looking for a school where he could play both sports. I think it is just a rumor. However, a few years down the road, he may chose one sport over another to maximize his chances of going to the next level. Honestly, if he dedicated himself to just BB, I wouldn't complain to loudly, but I think he will have an impact in both sports. :)

MB was the #1 TE recruit in the nation. For him, the NFL is almost a sure thing. It would be ridiculous for him to only play basketball, because the NBA is at best a longshot. He is a football superstar, but in basketball I don't think he will crack the starting lineup until at least his junior year. That's why he went to A&M for both sports. Texas and A&M both would have played him in football, but he might not have even made the team in basketball at Texas, whereas he should get a decent amount of playing time here.

I think MB's basketball skills are being overblown, because of his football superstar status. If he didn't play football, I don't think BG would have even recruited him.

I saw MB play FB & BB this year - leading the Greater Houston in scoring says something about his BB ability - one of last years best players coming out of Houston, Jawann McClellan, singed and played as a freshman with Arizona this year - MB is every bit as good if not better.

MB is built like AWright - for him to play TE in the NFL he will need to put on about 35 lbs - I know the recuiting services say he is 240 to 250 but there is no way - I also don't think he is a college power forward - more like AWright. If MB went straight BB & AWright went NBA (which he shouldn't - see Joseph Forte) then I could see MB playing the 3 if he plays BG defense this coming season.

Wasn't Tellus recruited by some of the basketball powers, wasn't he recruited by Duke for BB only. I think he will play BB immediately, although I agree he is an excellent football player. Just my two cents worth but he will player for BCG starting next year and make an impact.

There was a blurb in the Houston Chronicle today saying that Tellus is making himself available for the NBA draft - he has not signed with an agent.
