I'm listening to it on Yahoo broadcast which must be on like a 10 minute delay. Game hasn't even started there yet. . .

This is a HUGE conference game. The winner goes a long way to punching a ticket to the tourney and the loser has a LOT of work to do.

Go to chat and we'll ruin what happens :D

It has caught back up. Looks like a good game. You guys are a better second half team so you should be in good shape.

Thier home crowd is off the hook. It sounds like a Europeon Soccer game in there.

CaliHornia

You guys are playing them tight. Wish I could see this one because it's a big game in the conference.

J. Jones sounds like he's beast. And he's stayed out of foul trouble.

CoolaidWade

Well the crowd has currently shut the F up. Let's keep this up!

Oh, and this is my first Aggie basketball game of the season. Whoop!

They're quiet now. Ags are out hustling them. We lead 46-45 with about 15:00 to go....

Man...that was a good game...too bad we came out on the short end. Some of those fouls were horrible calls down the last 13 minutes...especially against Kirk.

What could've been...*sigh*...time to get ready to play #22 Oklahoma at Reed. This could be one of those "Big Wins" come March.

My Cowboys were damn lucky to get a win. They played stupid a great deal of the time. There were some home court calls that helped us. This game showed just how far our guys need to go in regards to consistency and defense. OSU has off the charts talent and can simply outscore teams. But they don't play good defense (Dove and Monds being out hurts pretty bad).

BG has really improved that team. I hope aTm is prepared to pay him big bucks. He's a keeper.

Yes he is, & I truly believe that BB will do whatever is necessary to keep him there. I bet in 10 years Aggies everywhere are saying, "Shelby who?"

This loss hurts though just because the win would've been so huge. I guess it's good to go through these tight games though (this reminds me of the Kansas loss last year). It'll only help us handle pressure situations later.

I hope this at least makes people stop talking about our non-conference schedule. We beat Tech by 8, then lost by 2 to OSU in one of the toughest arenas (according to ESPN announcers). We have a good team that can compete in the Big XII.

I agree. I think the slow mo showed that the defender was moving, but it still should have been two free throws instead of an "and one."

But it was so bang bang, at first I thought he got away with a definite charge. As I said, home court calls helped.

that game honestly pissed me off some... just because we should have won it (and end that stupid crap about not winning there since 1922 or whatever it was the espn guys kept bringing up)

To call the announcers redundant would be an understatement. They said the same things over and over:

aTm player was a walkon
same aTm player previoiusly played intramural basketball
Jones was from a really small town
GIA is a major advantage for OSU
aTm hasn't won in the state of Oklahoma in forever.
aTm hasn't won at OSU since 1922.
OSU lost all their players last year but Curry.

That was pretty much all they said all night. But many many times.

OSU is a young and talented team. That talent showed itself on our final possession. They played defense like Eddie Sutton coaches it.

We'll get them in the return game in College Station.

I really thought that even though you were down you had them were you wanted them at the half. You guys are usually a good second half team.

A win tonight would have gone a long ways to helping with a tourney spot for you guys. I'd go as far to say that oSu HAD to have this game, though. They couldn't afford to lose it and still have a chance.

You guys probably could.

we still have to take a game or two on the road (sans the baylor game). I think we have a decent shot at taking tech, k state, isu (although i see it being very similar to this osu game), baylor and possibly missouri (they are very streaky). We do need this weekend with ou though (and having it at home will really help, plus they are very down right now).

Yes tonight would have been huge though.

Vlyrock
01-12-2006, 01:08 AM
Baylor is a tough game still...Drew is a good player and he can singlehandedly lead them to some big wins...

I'm scared that we'll look past them...and then trip up on them for a bad loss.

jagowar
01-12-2006, 01:09 AM
this isnt football.... billy wont let them look past baylor.

baylor isnt that good and wont be imo (their whole team is just getting to know each other). thats going to take some time.

I swear my heart can't take many like that. I only sat down for about 10 minutes the entire game.

Hopefully, they learned a great many lessons tonight, especially the ones related to NOT throwing into coverage when you have the lead and there is plenty of time on the clock to build on it!!! Gawd.
They gave it away for no reason, but I thought they played a much better game than last one.
They seem to be improving, which is a positive and you have to admit, they held it together for most of the game in what may be the toughest environment they'll face all season.
I felt so bad for Law. He was outstanding.

The announcers were making me nuts as well, but at least they did say some very positive things about the progress our program has made and that Gillispie seemed to have the skills to keep it going in the right direction.

You better take your blood pressure medicine. . .the Big 12 is very even this year and everybody is going to be playing with their backs against the wall.

As painful as they are to watch, playing close games on TV against good teams--even if they result in losses--is a very good thing for a college basketball team.

Apart from the exposure you get to recruits, the NCAA tourney folks love that sort of thing because they like good games in the tourney.

Don't I know it!
It was a really good and exciting game and I know the team gained a little respect, but it sure would have been nice if they had held it together for a win. What a phenomenal confidence booster that would have been. My only hope is they take every bit of the positive out of the game that's there and use it to better themselves for a strong remainder of the season.

Seeing where this squad came from 2 years ago... They will be a "glass half full" team all year. A&M is on the rise but still needs that great season to really get that WINNERS CHIP on their shoulder. A loss sucks & hurts, but from where our squad came from & how hard they have worked to get to where they are now.... BG won't let them look at this as a 100% negative.... yeah they should have won & they played awesome for all but the last 3 1/2 minutes.... but like it has been mentioned... the improvement is obvious & there is no question about the hustle.... with each game they will get better & if they protect Home Court & win 2 or 3 on the road.... playing in the Big Dance in March is a strong possibility. It would do wonders for recruiting if they got past the 2nd round.... But again.... from where these guys started... they can go no where but up! And Law having sat through that horrible season, won't let this team do anything but give 100%.

The final outcome sucked, but it was a damn good performance from the Ags. Not many people win at OSU.

Wow, that game was a nail biter! I know a lot of people were predicting a close game, but to come down to the last second like that - amazing! Sucks to lose, of course, but I think the team played a great game. Can't wait to beat the hell outta OU this weekend! :gig:

I thought we had them - When Kirk missed that lay-up and then they came down and hit the 3 BIG MO shifted - Kirk played great D and his 5th foul was a weak call - I thought we looked disorginazied on our final play - It even looked that way in the huddle during the timeout - I like Red White as a shooter but felt we needed another ballhandler/decision maker, like Eddie Smith, in the game after Kirk went out. BCG is still the man though!

Pflugerville Ag
01-12-2006, 12:43 PM
You just have to get the ball to JJ on that final play. I know Acie was hot, but they were expecting us to go to him. Give it to JJ and let him try and draw a foul and make the shot. I know JJ was covered very well on that play, but we have to find a way to get it to him. OSU's best big man had already fouled out.

macduff93
01-12-2006, 01:21 PM
I agree. It seemed they had no true designed play or strategy on the last play to make any kind of aggressive move toward the basket. Relying on a desperation, low percentage 3-point shot was baffling and it may not have been what the coaching staff at all intended.

Time will hopefully cure that and maybe, just maybe, they learned a valuable lesson about being aggressive and fighting to the basket in such cases.

Should we also talk about the nonexistent outside shooting? I'm amazed they scored as much as they did, but there were some smooth and beautifully executed drives in the lane by both Law and JJ that were quite impressive. I'll bet you some serious shooting drills are on the practice schedule before Saturday.

All in all, they seem to making improvements and I'm not about to give them any grief because I think they're doing a fabulous job so far.

Pflugerville Ag
01-12-2006, 01:34 PM
Agreed. It is easy to be picky about last night's game but a few years ago, we were being beaten by 30 pts by a team of the same caliber. Building a program takes time and BG is doing it faster than anyone thought possible.

Vlyrock
01-12-2006, 01:42 PM
The final play was designed to go to J. Jones. If you watch it, you see Acie trying to dump it in but he's covered, so the Ags kick it around the horn trying to dump it in to him. He's doubled at that point and you can't get it to him. They then kicked it back to Acie who had to throw up that prayer 3. It would've been awesome if it fell.

I'm not sure if we had a time out or not, but I think once Jones was covered and Law had the ball with 4 seconds left, it might not have been a bad idea to try and call a time out and reset for a quick shot...

Either way, it was a great game. I wish I could see the OU game this weekend, but I'll be traveling. :(

01-12-2006, 02:44 PM
Seconded vly... you could see it acie was trying to go to joe. If I remember right he was double covered too.

01-12-2006, 03:38 PM
Vly is right, the play was called for JoJo to get the ball down low. I would prefer that we take a three, though, since the home team wins overtime 90% of the time anyway.

As the coach to repeat to me with a finger thump to the head, "It's the execution, not the plan, that matters. Execute. Execute. EXECUTE!!!!!!"

They'll get there. I have faith.

good game, I'm glad that we were at home or we would have lost. law was great!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The crowd was about 2,000 short and sometimes quiet, but still it was fun (because we won) and frustrating (turnovers) and we got out hustled all night. ya'll will beat ou.
