Wow...is that allowed? :) He just agreed (tentatively) to a 4 yr/$52 million deal to wear the Pinstripes next season...

I'm tired of the Yankees being able to buy anybody and anything...it gets old.

It really is getting old with the Yankees just buying everybody. I guess that's the game that is being played today, but it's not baseball and it really is rediculous. Selig needs to implement a salary cap and you can't exceed it. Not this BS with the penalties. Steinbrenner doesn't care about penalties, he'll pay all the penalties in the world

I hate the Yankees. The last few years have been great....watching them try to buy championships and fail miserably.

It will be weird to see him with short hair and no beard. I forgot that ol' George does not allow facial hair or long hair on his team.

Reminds me of one of the greatest simpsons episodes ever...

Mattingly, I thought I told you to get rid of those sideburns! That does it! You're off the team!

I still like him better than Steinbrenner.

No one can buy unless someone is selling. Hate the Yankees if you choose, but Damon and the Yankees are just doing what the rest of the professional sports world is doing, grabbing the buck. Gone are the days of Al Kaline, Bob Gibson, Cal Jr., etc. who were wedded to an organization for their entire career AND were well taken care of. It's always a two way street. Not trying to hijack the thread, but it is about Damon getting the huge bucks to go to the Yankees, so this is relevant. Sad, but relevant. Back in the 1960's, a player getting $100,000 was a really big deal. Most teams didn't have one, so being the first was an accomplishment. Detroit rewarded Kaline, about at the end of his HOF career, with the honor of being the first 100K Tiger. He humbly accepted the raise and then promptly went out and had a mediocre year. After the season, he asked to renegotiate his contract.....down. God, I loved baseball back then. Then along came Andy Messersmith and Dave McNally and things were never the same again. Prior to 1975, no one would have dreamed of jumping from the Sox to the Yankees. After that, it became about players chasing the buck and the owners chasing championships with their bucks. Sorry for the rant, but it hacks me off to see stuff like Alex Rodriguez, Damon, and the rest.
