What kind of hit will our recruiting (specifically defensive recruiting) take with this hire?

There are rumblings that recruits are considering jumping.

The media is already eviscerating the program over this hire.

I fear it will be hard to get anyone new and just has hard to keep some of the commits we have now.

Keep your eyes and ears open. Billy Liucci will comment on this I am sure.

et tu AG, I personally think that this hire will have a negative impact on offensive recruiting as well. Imagine the pressure of knowing that you have to be extraordinarily productive on every possession since there isn't a defense that can make stops. Next season IMO: Five wins. If everyone thought the defense looked bad this season under Torbush, just wait.

I really haven't heard much from the media as a whole regarding their opinion of the Darnell hire. I've looked around but really haven't read anything inflammatory. If you've got a story, can ya post the link? It'd be mucho appreciated....

Wow, you're really just out there with the assumption that Darnell is a complete idiot and couldn't even teach a defense where the field is. This guy may come in and do wonders with the defense...as I've been saying from the beginning -- I don't think it's fair to write him off before he's ever had a chance.

If any recruit leaves because of the hiring, then it's clear they weren't sold on being here. With the defense the state it was in last year, they knew what they were getting themselves into and looking at here at A&M. There's a very small chance things can get worse, because you have to admit, we were pretty damn bad this year. We can get worse, stay the same or get better, but it's a crap shoot, just like any season in college football. Did you think Tennessee would do as horribly as they did? Did Central Florida fans/recruits think they would actually compete for the conference after not winning a single game last year? You just never know year to year (except the few programs that consistently are Top 10 teams...all-time, not in the last 10 years).

From what I understand about recruiting is that the new DC hire will most likely affect next years class, not this one. Remember that we got blown out in the Cotton Bowl last year and did not have a good 2nd half against tu. But we were still able to pull in a good class. I believe we are feeling the effects of that this year along with a sub-par record. This class so far is solid but not a top 10 or 15. I think most of our recruits right now will stay on board. The only ones I see it affecting are Morgan and Lewis.

Vlyrock, I am not ignorant of the numerous reasons that Darnell is NOT a good fit. I'm familiar with his track record as a coach, where's he's coached and his long list of sub-par performances as a DC. I was referring specifically to stories printed that vilified TAMU for the hire.

hey I mean he is definitely not one of the best, but NO WAY we only win 5 games next year. NO WAY. He can't get the D to play any worse then they did last year (people said we could slip even further, but honestly theres no way we could be worse). With the experience we are bringing back, and guys who actually want our team to win, we aren't gonna be in that bad of shape. Hell, as bad as torbush was, I bet people wouldve thought we would suck next year if we kept him. But, with this NEW team and new ENERGY, I think we coulda made him look good.

Just a guess, but I don't think any recruit changes his mind based on what is said about a guy on a message board.

If they visit and like the school and the staff and have a good time, I just don't think they'll trust the word of a message board over their own eyes and ears.

I think the only time that the fans enter the picture is when the recruits go to the games and either see or don't see fan support in the stands.
