Just substitue MdAg for southerner and this is how I feel sometimes, reminded me of this because we had some snow last night and the streets are a mess. I would have edited out the cuss words, but I hope you will forgive me this one time, it would take away from the effect of the diary. :p

A Southerner Moves North

Dear Diary:

Dec 8: 5:00 pm. It’s starting to snow. The first of the season and the first one we’ve seen in years. The wife and I took our hot buttered rums and sat by the picture window, watching the soft flakes drift down, clinging to the trees and covering the ground. It was beautiful!!!

Dec 9: we awoke to a lovely blanket of crystal white snow covering the landscape. What a fantastic sight! Every tree and shrub covered with beautiful white mantle. I shoveled snow for the first time in years and loved it. I did both our driveway and our sidewalk-Later, a city snowplow came along and accidentally covered up our driveway with compacted snow from the street. The driver smiled and waved. I waved back and shoveled again.

Dec 10: It snowed an additional 5 inches last night and the temperature has dropped to around 11 degrees. Several limbs on the trees and shrubs snapped due to the weight of the snow. I shoveled our driveway again. Shortly afterwards, the snowplow driver came by and did his trick again. Much of the snow is brownish gray.

Dec 11: Warmed up enough during the day to create some slush, which soon became ice when the temperature dropped again. Bought snow tires for both cars. Fell on my ass in the driveway/ $145.00 for a chiropractor, but nothing was broken. More snow and ice expected.

Dec 12: Still cold. Sold the wife’s car and bought a 4x4 in order to get her to work. Slid into a guardrail anyway and did a considerable amount of damage to the right rear quarter panel. Had another 8 inches of the white **** last night. Both vehicles covered in salt and crud. More shoveling in store for me today. That goddamn snowplow came by twice today.

Dec 13: Two degrees outside. More ****in’ snow. Not a tree or shrub on our property that hasn’t been damaged. Power was off most of the night. Tried to keep from freezing to death with candles and a kerosene heater, which tipped over and damn near burned the house down. I managed to put the flames out, but suffered second degree burns on my hands and lost all my eyelashes and eyebrows. Car slid on ice on the way to emergency room and was totaled.

Dec 14: Goddamn mother-****in’ white **** keeps on coming. Have to put on all the clothes we own just to get to the ****in’ mailbox. If I ever catch the son-of-a-bitch who drives the snowplow, I’ll chew open his chest and rip out his heart. I think he hides around the corner and waits for me to finish shoveling and then comes down the street about 100 MPH and buries our driveway again. Power still off. Toilet froze and part of the roof has started to cave in.

Dec 15: Six goddamn more ****in’ inches of ****in’ snow and ****in’ sleet and ****in’ ice and who knows what other kind of white **** fell last night. I wounded the snowplow ******* with a ****in’ ice axe, but he got away. Wife left me. Car won’t start. I think I’m going snow-blind. Can’t move my toes. Haven’t seen the sun in weeks. More snow predicted. Win chill factor minus 22 ****in’ degrees. Screw this ****, I’m moving back to Texas.

MdAg, what in God's name possessed you to move to a state that has the HIGHEST incidence of sexually transmitted diseases in the nation? Not only THAT, but state income taxes and the RAVENS? Man, that's a hat trick for a ****-ass place to live. haha

Work is what brought me to this place cyanide, but believe me we are trying our hardest to get back to the motherland ASAP. Damn Marylanders are some strange folks, not too friendly. :p Man I hate cold weather, bring on the 100+ degree temps and the humidity I will take that any day. Just yesterday had to stop by the carwash to clean all the salt and crud of the vehicle.

Why not just look for job postings in Texas and then submit your resume pronto? That usually fixes those kinds of problems... What do you do, MdAg? Just curious what kind of work would be so enticing that one would move to the Northeast.

I'm a scientist Cyanide, work for the Food and Drug Administration. I know pretty much everything you wanted to know about chickens and salmonella. :p, and yes I eat alot of chicken :D What I'm hoping is that after I put in some time with the government they will allow me to transfer and work in one of the TX offices. I really don't care where in TX, I just want to be back in the Lonestar State. Oh, and by the way, state income taxes suck :) , on the weather front, the white s**t, I mean snow has stopped falling for the time being, now I have to go wash all the salt and crude off the vehicle.

LOL Pinche, Rep+. I'd feel sorry for the poor bastard, he'd freeze like a popsicle. Man don't you know, us mexicans weren't intended to live in cold climates, but we are slowly adopting. :p

MDAg, I assume you're a microbiologist, right? How about moving away from the federal arena and try the Texas Department of Health or some such department? But perhaps you could be somewhat beholden to the federal government related to pensions and whatnot...so if that's the case, I understand your apprehension/unwillingness to just ****can the lovely state of Maryland to return to Texas ASAP (even though I personally wouldn't have gone in the first place, you weirdo..haha)...I hope for your sake and that of your soul that you can make it back to Texas before any lasting damage is done to your values, beliefs and general state of mental well being. heh.. Food and Drug Administration... yeesh....

At any rate, I am sure you enjoy your work and are so passionately interested in it that you were willing to live in hell.. erm... Maryland.. That's dedication, man. Total dedication. There are only a handful of states other than Texas in which I would be willing to live. All related directly to them not having a state income tax.. let's see.. Tennessee, Florida, Washington, Alaska, Wyoming and.... damn...I think that's it.. Oh! One last place, not a state, but actually provides the maximum financial liberty of any place on the planet: The Cayman Islands. No taxes of any variety on PROPERTY or INCOME. There is a tax on imported items, which comprises nearly everything, but hey, at least it's fair and is spread around to EVERYONE, regardless of their income. I think such a system is far superior in fairness to what we deal with here in the US.. Man, I gotta stop or this rant will continue until I drop foaming from the mouth into unconsciousness..

Md
Have you checked into the State-Federal Diagnostic Labs? I know there's a poultry lab in Gonzales, and somewhere else too, I think.

you should try living here in kansas city. Man the weather sucks up here. The weather will change god damn 4 times in one week. I've seen it go from 0 degrees and six inches of snow to sixty degrees in like two days and then back down to 0 degrees two days later and six more inches of snow after the **** just melted. Everyone here is sick all the damn time cause of the freakin weather. there is a saying here that goes "welcome to kansas city. Hate the weather, stay awhile"
