It's being reported all over the place
He's supposedly going to USC. So the question is does this help us with Murray(longshot) and hurt us with Goodsen who might now have a newfound interest in tu? From the outside it looks more and more like James Johnson may be our guy

Well according to rivals Murray has only a low interest in us. I would love to get him. I didn't know that Goodson had some big interest in tu? I don't know anything from the inside on that one. That Johnson guy seems like he could be a good back, but I'm really starting to wonder about this whole JC transfer thing. Foliaki is the only player out of the past 2 years JC tranfers who have actually played pretty good on the field. I think carpenter could be a really good CB though if we get a new defensive scheme, oh and somebody tells him to turn around and look for the ball

Typically things like this don't shake things as much as expected.
It is now doubtful that Goodson goes to USC other than for a paid vacation AKA his official visit. With the current crop of RBs at Texas, I doubt that Goodson wants to sit at least two years before getting a lot of playing time.
Basically that leaves Goodson with his committment to OSU and aTm trying to take him away (I don't think the official visit is set yet, but I may be wrong).
Interestingly enough, it looks like Goodson won't be a spring student, so that means we'll all have to wait until Feb to see how this all shakes out.
I've been very impressed with OSU's recruiting. They got the commit from Goodson (a top flight RB), they got Alex Cate (elite 11 QB) to decommit from LSU and he will be a spring student. They also have a good shot at some top offensive linemen. If they can hold their current commits and get a surprise here or there, it could be the top recruiting class OSU football has had in years. The last two games versus Tech and Texas have been huge for the recruiting efforts.

I'm not necessarily implicating anything, but it seems funny to me that a coach with a pitiful program can get all this top talent. That being said i'm sure people were saying that about us when Fran came in, but the one thing is that Fran was known as a recruiter and Gundy is kind of an unknown. It's just interesting.

goes right along with the rumors that have been going on all season about the pokes. i unterstand 'big brother' might be paying them a visit sometime in the near future to look into these rumors

Those aren't rumors...OSU has been turned in to the NCAA by several programs for a number of violations...some of which where even documented on National TV. That being said, sometimes when you are an up & coming program but behind some big dogs, its not always bad to take your chances.
And Pokes28, Goodson will end up at A&M...mark it down.

OK, we'll see. There are still more than 2 months to go till signing day, so a lot can happen.
As far as NCAA investigation, anything is possible. The biggest thing that I've heard in regards to violations was the billboards they put in various cities. They took them down and reported themselves to NCAA as a possible infraction (they weren't sure it was a violation, but since they were told by other programs that it was, they played it safe).
As for good recruits going to OSU, it really isn't all that surprising. The athletes live like kings. They have very posh living quarters and the food is outrageously good. If you hear recruits talking about OSU, yes they talk about the coaches and all that, but they really talk about the quality of life for the athletes. OSU also has the #1 strength and conditioning coach in the entire nation (pro or college). Yes, everybody wants to win and play for a winner, but there are other aspects to a program that can be used as a recruiting tool.
The thing is that since OSU got in trouble for the stuff that was done in the early to mid 80s, the NCAA hasn't come down on anybody to the same degree. So even if all the IFs are founded, it is my doubt that there would be much punishment. Heck a guy died and stuff was covered up and all the main thing the NCAA did to Baylor basketball was cut out about 10-12 games.

Its obvious that the food must be good, look at XLK. Of course we must have good food for our athletes too, but none of them get to eat any of it...Hightower eats it all.

So the death penalty at smu isn't hard?

I may be off, but I believe the death penalty was assessed to SMU prior to the penalty handed to OSU. From what I recall, SMU was killed while I was still in high school and OSU wasn't hit until my freshman year at OSU.
I could have the order of events backwards in my head. That happens after nearly 20 years.

I'm not sure about exactly when OSU was in trouble for rule infractions, but SMU had their football program axed in '88 and '89 as per the NCAA "death penalty". I did however hear that SMU was being investigated as early as '84.

Yeah you said early 80's for osu and I knew SMU got the death penalty at the end of the decade

Sorry, they were punished for what took place while Jimmy Johnson was still at OSU (some of it continued into the first bit of the Pat Jones years as well). But they didn't hand down the sanctions until 89 though they knew they were told in 88 they were going to get punished.
So it sounds like those two punishments were at about the same time. The point is that the NCAA doesn't do much any more. They saw how much they hurt both SMU and OSU by going overboard that today they really don't do much to rule breaking programs. Now I'm not saying OSU is doing anything wrong. I'm not close enough to know. What I do know is that they still have their compliance officer position in place that was put in after 89 and they consistently self report anything that is even slightly gray.
