Per Rivals, holy crap, make no mistake Gillispie is making some serious noise in recruiting, if by some chance we land Davis, watch out. :gig: Aggie Basketball has a bright bright future.

I think our basketball team has a very bright future regardless if we land Davis or not. But he would be huge

I hope that Bill Byrne takes the same philosophy for basketball that he does for football and baseball, and that's pay a large sum of money to get(or in this case, keep) the coach you want. Billy Gillispie will no doubt be offered by bigger programs later on, so we need to do what we need to keep him for a long time.

Yep Sloan Verbaled, Gillespie is doing a good job for A&M. We'll be making noise in March in no time (in the REAL tournament)

Money will not be an issue to keep BCG here. He can make his own legend status here, and not have to worry about maintaining the tradition at some place like Duke, UNC, etc.

Come to think of it, BCG is already legendary here.

I agree... BG can make himself a legend here and we WILL beat any offer ($$$ wise) that any basketball school will make. If we lose BG its going to be to a big name school and I dont see him wanting to leave texas to do it.

There is one problem with the aTm commit list and that is that they still have Flowers as a commit to aTm. He committed last week to OSU. But of course none of it is real until signing day.

BG is having a good recruiting year. He's doing something that is very difficult and that is bringing up a program in the Big 12 South. It is very hard to compete with Texas, Tech, OU, and OSU for recruits. The good thing for aTm is that several of the other teams seem to be on a different recruiting wave. For example, OSU brought in 7 guys for the 2005 season. They will only have two recruits for 2006 and 2007 could be a very small recruiting class as well (could be as small as two players). I don't know if it was the plan, but regardless, it is a good way to bring in good players.

David, saw that about Flowers, I guess our loss is your gain. From everything I have heard the kid is a "playa". I though he was going the prep school route due to academics. We still are waiting on Bryan Davis, that would be another big recruit for us. If we lose Flowers to you like it appears we have, I think it will work out for both our teams, because if Gillispie continues where he left off last year, attracting recruits won't be a problem in Aggieland anymore. :)

I thought Flowers was in a prep school right now. I don't know, I'm not close enough to the situation to really tell. But you have a lot of reasons to be excited. I do wonder about how much aTm fans will continue to support if the program hits a wall this year. They very well could be better and end up with the same or even a worse record.

What is the attendance capabilities of the basketball gym? Do you fill it on a regular basis? I've considered taking a couple days of vacation to come down and watch when OSU comes to town. May have to wait until next year though. It is a heck of a drive from Missouri.

Reed Arena holds 12,500. We used to only fill it for Tech and t.u, but filled it quite a bit last year. I expect large attendence for almost all games this year.

I disagree with this, there's tons of talent to be had in Texas. Plus, the BigXII schools are making inroads as far as keeping the top names at home and not going ACC. We need to keep dudes like Okafor who was from Houston going to places like UConn. This is one situation where other teams in the conference doing well actually helps the other teams.

Not really. I hate to say it, but when you have UConn, Duke, or UNC knocking and you are a basketball player, you listen. Yes there are is a ton of talent in Texas roundball and it seems to just get better and better. This past year Texas had a TON of top 100 players. They probably had as many as any state in the country.

Case in point there is a kid from Edmond, OK that is the #25 rated player in the country for the 2006 signing class. He held out on committing to OSU in hopes that one of the ACC schools would recruit him. They didn't and OSU was there to snag him. Some colleges have always has gotten their fair share of the Texas talent. Others are doing a really good job lately of recruiting it strong (like OSU).

It is more a case of two different things: more top talent from the state than ever before, and the ACC schools not sniffing around as much for some reason. How many kids from Texas has really been being recruited by the ACC over the last two or three years (and with recruiting in BBall being like it is, you can look at 2006 and 2007 as well) and you will see that they simply aren't hitting it hard. They are going for talent from other places right now.
