Aggie Will thinks we are so good we are 14th and 18th. :cheesy:

I wonder if we can use those two rankings and trade up for a better one ;)

Ouch -- Can't say that I think we are top 25 material [not preseason with new coaches], but I would have to say bowl bound. May not be a 'good' bowl, still a winning season. I do like the consensus that aTm is ~15th though. Your school had a solid team last year.

Oh, and I think the dirt burglars are still ranked too high!

Maybe you guys will get to play in the brand new Poinsettia Bowl. :D Sounds like a fun bowl to be a part of (I guess everybody gets a poinsettia plant as their gift for making it)...

I'll probably total the Top 25 by Friday and post what the consensus is, so if you haven't posted your top 25, do it. And it's open to everybody.

Sorry, that's just how I see it. New coaching staff + Losing Morency + completely new offense + Big 12 South = losing season.

You do have three cupcakes for OOC games, but I don't think you will beat Colorado, Missouri, Texas A&M, Texas, Texas Tech, or Oklahoma. That's at least 6 losses right there. ISU is a toss up, they could be bowl-bound again. Baylor usually pulls off a home upset every year, and OSU could be that team that they catch off-guard in 2005. The Aggies went through the same thing in 2003, rebuilding is just necessary sometimes.

Also, about OU, I don't like them either, but they have stayed at the top no matter who they lose. Their recruiting continues to be better than anyone in the nation.

Also, about Arizona State, their star RB shot and killed a teammate and is banished from the team (and will spend the next few years in prison). I think they will be like Baylor basketball and fall apart.

Now, remember, I'm no football guru. Just an average fan, so I could be way off base here, but, here goes anyways:

I'm not so sure that losing Morency is a deal-killer. Yeah, he was good, but couldn't do anything for the rest of the season after our aTm game. I know everyone was expecting us to run because, well, that's all we did. But, I figured he would be able to break a few impressive runs anyways as spectacular as he thought he was. He couldn't catch a pass in the flats [partly a qb problem]. Well, regardless of that, when he opted to leave school early [after saying repeatedly that he was going to get a degree to honor his family] his excuse was that he didn't get enough playing time. That just makes me laugh every time.

We do have some really good RBs this year from what everyone is saying. They, just like the rest of the team, are inexperienced.

The part of your equation that worries me the most is "Big 12 South".....

Pokes, I know you're just an average fan, but can you give us non-Cowboys fans a breakdown of what's still on your team. I know you lost Morency and you have a new staff. Personnel wise, I don't know much. Is Woods still QB? That's how much I don't know about OSU at this point (I could always look it up if I wanted)... :)

But what are other OSU fans saying about the season?

Another thing about OSU next year is the possible QB controversy. I read somewhere that their #1 guy was injured last year when Woods took over. Now, if that guy gets his spot back, will there be friction between him and his #1 receiver (Woods' brother)?

I don't know this for sure, but that's another thing I heard that gives me doubts about OSU's 2005 season.

Right now our QB is still Donovan Woods. He is still leading after spring ball, but probably just because he has D1 experience. The competition between Woods and Bobby Reid is what you should have heard about. Reid was a high level recruit and he was the one who hurt his shoulder before last season. The next in line is Al Peña. Supposedly he is pretty good too, and doing well with the new system, just not talked about too much. It sounds like Woods may be more capable with the short and intermediate balls now instead of just the bombs.

Our receivers are still led by D'juan Woods. Chijuan Mack, Luke Frasier, and Tommy Devereaux are the only other names listed on the roster I recognize. It seems like all of them played significant minutes last year, we were just a running team, so their names weren't called out much. We lost our stud of a TE, Bajema, to the 49ers. He would catch anything within 3 yards, he was just way underutilized.

Running the ball should be led by Seymore Shaw (RB). He was the short yardage guy last year if I remember correctly. He is a pretty big boy that had to be wrapped up to be tackled. THe only other name I recognize from the roster last year is TB Greg Gold. He had a few carries but I don't remember them. It looks like the rest of our running game is really young, but supposed to be talented. (Everyone is supposed to be talented at this level, right?)

I know nothing about the OL or DL. It seems the general consensus around the message boards is that our D was not bad last year, it was the 4-2-5 that was supposed to bend, not break. It didn't really work that way too well and they got lit up fairly regularly.

I recognize names for the CBs and LBs, but don't know enough about defensive schemes/alignments/etc to give useful info.

Our O-Coord is Larry Fedora from Florida. He is the no-huddle offense guy. From what I have heard, it is not a true no-huddle/hurry-up offense the whole time, but more of a controlling the clock type of thing. I remember reading that we should not be surprised to see them line up with 20 on the play clock and not snap until 4-5 left. I guess it throws off the D, but I dunno. It sounds like the play will be might called in a huddle, they line up, EVERYONE looks to the sidelines to see if an audible is called [or original play if no huddle] and they go from there. I'm not sure how that works, and it seems like a strange way to do things, but like I said, football is not my forté and I may have something wrong here.

One of the first things Mike Gundy [new head coach] did was kick Prentiss Elliot off of the team. He couldn't keep out of trouble, so now he is gone. He was a pretty good CB and PR, but when he was hurt near the end of the season, it seems like he was replaced without much drop off in talent.

How's that for a short response from a guy that doesn't know much....

Trust me, you better hope they get that down before they come to Kyle. Also, that type of offense looks ridiculous on the field (with everybody looking to the sideline). I don't understand the thinking behind it because it gives the QB less time to read the defense because he's staring at the coach, then has to turn around and snap the ball.
