View Full Version : If Fran fired Torbush, who would we go after?

Let's say Fran fires Torbush at the end of the season. Who would he be able to get to lead our defense? Below are the current top 20 defenses in the NCAA (notice that there are 6 teams from the Big 12). I know these rankings will change quite a bit once the season goes on, but it is interesting to look at now.
I don't know much about some of these team's coaches, but I would think that we should be able to get the defensive coordinator from UConn, West Virginina, maybe BC, or Tulane with little or no problem. Anyone have any suggestions for who would be a good fit?
1 Connecticut
2 Virginia Tech
3 Miami (Fla.)
4 Ohio St.
5 Texas
6 Alabama
7 Auburn
8 Florida
9 West Virginia
10 Boston College
11 Kansas St.
12 Tulane
13 Georgia
14 Florida St.
15 Baylor
16 Penn St.
17 Nebraska
18 Tennessee
19 Colorado
20 Texas Tech

I would give anything to have Virginia Techs Defensive C. In my opinion they are similar to the Wrecking Crew of the 90's. Fast and swarm to the ball. I can't remember if they are a 3-4 or a 4-3. I would assume 3-4?
I wouldn't mind having Virginia Tech's special teams but to do that we would have to get Beamer. He wouldn't want to come over here.

There are a lot of people that I would like to have, but I want to try and figure out who we can realistically get. I think its safe to say that we won't be able to get any of the coaches from the major schools in the top 10.

People assume he is going to fire Torbush in the first place. Do you really think he wants to re-build after three years? Fran brought that asswipe with him from bama.
I think the only way he'll fire him is pressure from up top. It won't be voluntarly.

Well there should be pressure from up top. I think they need to get somebody that won't play bend and don't break bull****. They need somebody that is going to get us our swagger back.

Fran might not want him gone, but Byrne doesn't put up with losing teams.

My first choice would be to fire Fran and get Steve Mariucci to get off the clusterf%#k that is the Lions
However that not possible i'd take Dom Capers after the Texans fire his @$$

I would never donate another penny to the 12th Man Foundation if we hired either one of those guys.

What about replacing Fran with Price at UTEP?
This guy was a top notch coach before his scandal, and he's completely turned that program around.

Why would anybody want Capers to coach for the Aggies??

Sometimes it's not you, its the situation. He sucked for Years with the Jets and the Pats got worse each year he was Head Coach, College Football is different

It took me awhile, but I get it. Good call. They'd hate us if we took their savior from both major sports.

Price won't be here. Mizzou will can Pinkel and go after Price. History repeats itself. They once hired Bob Stull away from UTEP.

I'd be interested to see what Price would do if a big school threw some big $$$ his way. He claims that he is not leaving UTEP for a while since they gave him a 2nd chance. But, as we all know, money talks.

Of course, I am assuming that Mizzou will ditch Pinkel. I think that they will go after Price, but that is my opinion.
Now, I also believe that there will not be any staff changes after the season. Again, this is only my opinion, and it is only a gut feeling. We'll see. Torbush is pretty well respected in coaching circles, IMHO.

The only reason he's respected in the Coaching Cirlce is just due to the shear amount of career games he has allowed in 3 years(this year alone).

I didn't really mean to drag this thread back to the forefront. I was just trying to figure out how to quote people..lol.. And being the AGGIE that I am, well, duh... lol

Cyanide, about your question on quoting, here you go, just ask if it still not clear :)

About the defensive coordinator, first of all I think Torbush's pink slip is a done deal. I don't think Fran wants to do it, but I think Fran has been told he HAS to do it. Our coordinators are the best paid in the nation, or at least among the top paid, so I think from that standpoint we can offer anybody we want. However, the more important question is WOULD anybody want to come here, considering the hot seat Fran is sitting on. His future here at Aggieland is shaky at best. Now if you are a top notch D coordinator would you come work for a coach which you aren't sure is going to have a job beyond next year? That my friends is the big question.

I think Maryland is right, if Torbush goes, it will be more of a have to than a want to for Fran. As bad as or D is, Torbush has had good defenses everywhere he has been.

I think it's a done that Torbush is gone, but the question is, Koenning has to be on an even hotter seat than Fran if he comes back next year, so this is probably topic for another thread, but who would we get if Koenning goes?
