It could just be me and correct me if im wrong, but i don't think the problem with our defense is the talent. I think the problem is with the dumbass cordinator, running delayed blitzes, not covering passes, and just overall screwing up. We can't stop the pass to save our lives and tech i'm afraid is gonna walk all over us. I'm not worried about tu as much because they don't have a quarterback. They have 2 running backs one just happen to say hutt. We need to get our defense in gear. Now fran needs to get his ass in gear and start callin some risk plays. He is way too conservative. We have an amazing quarterback that can throw the ball 65 yards flat footed. and runs a 4-2.8. Ok I'm done bitchin so yall can pick me apart now.

the talent is definitely not our problem, it is getting the most out of our talent. if we would develop our players and call better schemes to maximize their athleticism, then we would do good. I think part of torbush's philosophy is trying to limit mistakes. I think he needs to call more aggressive defensive plays. Sure we will get burned every now and then, but havoc in the backfield creates a lot of turnovers

4 - 2.8 = 2.2........wow if only Reggie could run that fast. (j/k sawemoff i know what you meant)

I think it's clear that it's not talent with the way that we've stepped it up in the red zone. It's play calling/execution between the 20s, and i don't know that there's any 1 group/person to point a finger at...but i suppose Torbush is the most likely target.

Has anyone seen our red zone defense stats, i'm assuming they are pretty good compared to others?

I said something very similar to that about 3 weeks ago. However, I've also gone a little more in depth. One, lets get the play calls in earlier, that way the appropiate people can make the proper calls at the line before the Offense snaps the ball. I'm trying to figure out which number is greater for the season...feel free to help me...The number of times that we have run option on first down, or the number of times that the opposing team has snapped the ball while at least one of our players was standing with his arms out looking at someone else, waiting to be told what to do.

Also, I'm okay with soft cushions on 1st & 2nd down occasionally. But if I see us back up to 8 yards off a guy on 3rd & 6 one more time, I'm going to implode. There is no reason to let a guy run open anywhere close to the first down marker...much less, play 2 yards past the line to gain. Will teams try to take advantage of us playing the pass more aggresively on 3rd down. Absolutely. Will that result in giving up some big plays? Hell yes!! But its a helluva lot harder for a team to complete a 30 yard go route than it is to complete a 6 yard curl route, & if they do burn us deep....at least our defense gets off the field in a shade under 16 plays.

First of, welcome to the board sawemoff :) , always glad to have a new member and a fresh perspective. Don't worry you won't get bashed on this board. I will have to disagree a bit on VY, QB or RB whatever you want to call him, the kid can play and most importantly he wins, but I would love nothing more than to stop him cold, if we could get our act together by then. I mostly was posting on the talent issue, I agree 100% with you. Let face it, every big time program in the country was after most of these kids, heck even that school in Austin :p , so I have never bought the no talent argument, baloney! I seriously think Torbush's schemes are too complicated, these kids are still looking at there wristbands on the snap. I sincerely hope Fran takes a hard look at his assistants at seasons end. Friendship is good, but business is business, and for $2 million you have an obligation to your employer. Again welcome to the board, and I look forward to your posts.

I think you're onto something Dustin. You might add in there that option play that we run way the hell too much on 1st and 2nd down too. I too have noticed how many times our defenders are trying to make a call or get in position as the ball is being snapped and if Torbush's defense is that damn complicated that it needs that many adjustments on the field before the snap, maybe it's not that good of a defense. I don't see NFL teams making as many calls and adjustments to their schemes as our wonderful defensive coordinator has our guys doing.

The thing I notice about our defenders is that when a long pass is thrown, they are trying to face guard. Watch for the receiver to make a move and then try to quickly counter that move. That is not football, and the coaching staff we have should be teaching these guys how to stay in position so that they can get their heads turned on the ball. I would much rather see us give up a couple longs passes however than let teams nickel and dime us to death and then us miss a tackle and it turns into a big play. At least that way, we can put an end to these 3rd down conversion problems we have with them completing 4 and 5 yard stop routes. I completely believe our defense has the talent to hang with anybody in the NCAA, we just need a better scheme or maybe better coaching. The players can only be as good as the coaches will allow them to be.

thanks for the input yall. I didn't mean to point fingers i just am having big problems with torbush's defense. Oh aggie diver if reggie ran a 2.2 then we would be in the rose bowl every year.LOL. I just get frustrated seeing the talent we have on defense and were not maximizing it.

Amen. My beef is that after 3 yrs the db's and cb's are still not looking for the ball. F-U-N-D-A-M-E-N-T-A-L-S. Thats all the game is about. When you have a fundamentally solid team, problems just seem to fix themselves. We need a DC with an in your face style where if you mess up, your out. This pansy ass, we need to work harder in practice, media luncheon bs that torbush has been feeding us for the last few years is getting stale. Im hungry for something different!!!!

Come on, guys. You know what Torbush says. "Its not the system. If the system fails, its because the players aren't talented enough to execute the plays." Granted, I paraphrased that, but he has said something very similar to that in the past. That right there would be enough for me to fire the guy after 3 years of National Top 15 Recruiting Classes & still having a struggling defense. Everytime I watch a recruiting video of our defensive guys, & I read about how talented they were coming out of high school, I can't help but draw a Mack Brown/Chris Simms to Torbush/Defensive Players comparison.
