Aggies Need A Statement Game
Hurricane Rita caused the Texas State/Texas A&M game to be moved up to Thursday night from it's original Saturday evening time slot; but Rita didn't make the Aggies play the way they played. The Aggies looked lethargic early, coming away with 13 points off 2 turnovers in the first quarter. Texas State hung tough and managed to rack up 497 yards of offense against the Aggies, with 373 through the air. QB Barrick Nealy had a career game going 26-35 for 373 yards and 3 touchdowns. He did have one interception on the day, but that could be credited to the wide receiver more than Nealy.
The Aggies survived the scare 44-31 and now prepare for the game many Aggies have been waiting for all offseason. The Baylor Bears travel to Kyle next Saturday to open Big XII play and look to extend their winning streak over the Aggies to 2 games. A&M however, has different plans, as they set their sights on revenge and blemishing Baylor's 3-0 start. In a two overtime game, Baylor ended a 6 game winning streak for the Aggies last year and contributed to a late-season collapse that saw the Aggies lose 3 of their last 4 games.
The Aggie offense appears to be clicking as it was this time last year. QB Reggie McNeal has put up back to back 300 yard passing games and has rushed for over 200 yards in the past 2 games. The legacy of A&M though has always been defense and the Wrecking Crew, but coming into next weekend's game has many fans asking, "Where's the defense?" The Aggies have been torched through the air against the last 2 opponents and that worries many fans with pass happy teams like Baylor and Tech looming on the schedule.
Either way, the game next Saturday is expected to be overloaded with hard-hitting intensity as both teams take the field with something to prove and something to play for. Fox Southwest will carry the game which airs at 11:30 AM.September 22, 2005 - AggieFans.com News (http://aggiefans.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=23.php?)
