according to the Lubbock A/J, texas tech is one of (i think) 4 schools left in div 1A with true turf. Tech, Boise (and 2 dome teams, i think 'cuse and someone else in the metrodome) This particular Red Raider Rug is the 3rd one so far for tech. Each of the others have gone 11 seasons before being replaced...this is season 8. Mike Leach said he enjoys being one of the only programs left with turf but that it is likely time for a change/upgrade. This old type of (knee killer) turf is hard to get parts for anymore so likely we will be going to Grassy turf. (leach dislikes grass) Some have even gone so far as to say this is the last season.
Thoughts?

Leach dislikes grass? He really ought to look into it. It gives you just as good if not a better buzz than liquor & you don't feel like **** in the morning. Everyone is doing it!! ;)

Without a doubt grass. Turf is the dark ages right now and unsafe for athletes.

LMAO REP+1 :gig:
i know alot of people are into grass, but i have always been a fan of our turf....i feel like tech plays better on it. our offense is so gimmicky alot of the YAC comes from jukes and spins that are amplified by the agility enhancements made possible but turf

Of course, every upside has a downside--they won't allow grass into the Bunny Ranch. ;)

Now how the hell is grass supposed to grow in Lubbock? I think they should replace the turf with sand. It should be really cheap for them, so that they still have money left over for stamps.

That would be awesome to have a sand field :D

OK State just replaced their old-top-of-the-line grassy turf with the new-top-of-the-line grassy turf. We are also supposed to get an indoor practice facility (if daddy Boone Pickens will give us an allowance, or God forbid, another donor shows up). When this indoor facility is done, the latest grassy turf goes in there and we replace the stadium surface with grass.
Don't get me wrong, Pickens' $ is great, but that's another thread.....

Tech should go with the top of the line field turf.

Yeah, if Tech got red turf, hundreds of thousands of tumbleweeds would flock to it after mistaking it for the Lubbock country-side. ;)

I am thinking of 4 football players that I played with on my team that all tore something or broke something on turf. It grabs your feet and doesn't let go. It was the worst Idea ever and I can't believe that it ever caught on. If it was up to me we would shot the guy that thought it was a good idea. It was like him saying, "Hey lets put some boxes and concrete blocks up in the field so the players have to move around them. It will increase ratings and a lot of people will get hurt"
