AUSTIN – Quarterback Vince Young looked so good during spring practice that Texas coach Mack Brown said comparisons between Young and former Virginia Tech quarterback Michael Vick are appropriate.

"I think it's OK because Vince is that type of player," said Brown of his Rose Bowl MVP. "And Vince has so much confidence now and is throwing the ball with such confidence and velocity. He's developing into one of the best quarterbacks in school history.

"I think comparisons to Michael Vick put pressure on Vince. But I think that's a healthy thing right now."

K, I did a little research. Pulled stats from 2001-2004. Chris Simms started '01-02, V. Young '03-'04.

Simms total in 2 years:

Passing: 449-758 (59.23%) 5810 yards, 48 TD, 23 Int
Rushing: 122 Rushing Attempts, -134 yards, 10 TD

Young in 2 years:

Passing: 232-393 (59.0%) 3004 yards, 18 TD, 18 Int
Rushing: 302 Rushing Attempts, 2077 yards, 25 TD


In summary, Chris Simms gained a net of 5676 yards, aiding in 58 TD and only 23 Int's.

Vince Young gained a net of 5081, aiding in 43 Td and throwing 18 INt's.

Stat-wise Chris Simms was the better producer. In quarterback terms, Simms was the better quarterback. Vince is just a running back that lines up under center. You can tell when he's scored more TD's running then throwing, and his rushing yards is close to his total passing yards.


Michael Vick in 2 seasons:
192-342 (56.14%), 3299 passing yards, 20 TD, 11 Int
235 Rushing Attempts, 1299 yards, 17 TD

Vince has better scrambling numbers...but even from a quarterback standpoint, Vick was the better quarterback (passing numbers)

Okay their are 2 types of scrambling Qb's. A running back that can throw occasionally or a Qb who can run. Both Vick and Vince are running backs, while Reggie is a Qb that can run.

Vince is an incredible athlete. Had he been in the secondary, he would garner considerable attention there too.
