Warming Up for Big XII Play
The Aggies showed glimpses of what a glorious season this could be Saturday at Kyle Field. Reggie McNeal threw 4 of his 5 TD passes on the day in the 3rd quarter to help the Ags pull away from a feisty SMU squad and eventually win 66-8.
Unfortunately, the Aggies also showed some weaknesses to an overmatched SMU squad. The secondary, although having 2 interceptions, gave up a big TD pass to SMU early and gave up 309 total passing yards to the Ponies. For the Aggies to have success this season, this area of the defense needs to be shored up. Facing passing opponents like Texas Tech and even Baylor (who picked on the Aggie secondary last year) could spell trouble for the Aggies if they don't turn things around.
Luckily for the Ags, they get another warm up game when the 2-0 Texas State Bobcats come into Kyle Field, Saturday. The game kicks off at 6:00 PM and may be a wet one if forecaster's projections are correct for Hurricane Rita's path. This game has not been announced for TV as of yet.
