PHOENIX – If Bowl Championship Series officials require that college football coaches reveal their final regular-season votes to remain a part of the BCS, Grant Teaff said Monday that coaches would do it.
Teaff, executive director of the American Football Coaches Association, stated earlier this spring that his group surveyed all Division I-A coaches on whether they would reveal their final regular-season votes.
Teaff said Monday that he would not reveal the results of the survey until BCS officials inform him how the coaches poll fits into the new structure. He's held that position for months.
But when asked if Division I-A coaches would reveal their votes or risk the USA Today/ESPN coaches poll being removed from the BCS formula, Teaff said it was safe to assume his group would do what it took to remain part of the process.
"That's a good assumption," Teaff said after emerging from a 30-minute meeting with BCS officials at the Royal Palms Resort and Spa. "The reason it's a good assumption is that our coaches have made it clear that they are willing to do what it would take to help the BCS. They believe in the BCS. It's our championship, and we're willing to do what it takes.
"But we don't know what the BCS is going to do. We're not writing any checks we can't cash."
