It's been a good game, but I think both teams are bad (reminds me of the FSU-Miami thriller a couple of years ago when both teams went on to have terrible seasons). UT will not be ranked for long, even if they come back tonight.

is they lose, they won't be ranked....i don't see them falling out of the top 25 if they win this game....the media kinda likes them.

Oh, they'll definitely still be ranked if they win. What I meant was that they'll lose some games in the near future. I don't know what their schedule is like, but the SEC will eat them alive.

all i know is ucla is playing with confidence against a "superior" team in a pretty similar situation to us (new coach, new scheme, qb had poor half... even though it was the first half). even if they dont manage to hang on here.....

Dont you know you're supposed to go through 3 or 4 rebuilding years before you start competing!? You're making us look bad! New coaches are always supposed to lose to a #18 team! Or to terrible teams for that matter!

even if ucla goes on to lose this i think there is far more to be exited about at ucla than us right now. going down to tennessee in overtime looks far better than losing to a team like arkansas state where in all reality we were very lucky to be as close as we were.

i'm trying not to make comparisons between us and ucla's coaching situation after game one....they just won though.

Well, I think at this point, we're more like Tennessee. We come into the season with decently high expectations only to find out we don't have field goal kickers.

He also leaves schools in worse off shape (probation wise) than he found them.... Interesting to see if he does things right at UCLA (especially with the pressure USC puts on the program).

UCLA is among only five schools that have never played a I-AA opponent since the divisional format was established in 1978. The other schools are Washington, USC, Michigan State and Notre Dame.

But Notre Dame has Navy every year.

OSU has two. Maybe they would consider a trade.

That's interesting, I wonder why those schools don't play them?

This is how it should be done. Ucla went got a former player that is a proven head coach on the college level, he then hired a proven college OC that runs a wide open scheme in Chow, kept the DC Walker who is good from the fomer staff, and took the talent that is about equal to ours in recruiting rankings and went and made it happen. Even if they lost you could see that Rick would at least have a winning season and the program was headed in the right direction, because the Offense moved the ball and the scheme looked good except when the QB was rattled in the 1st half but the coaches got him under control after halftime. They made the right in game adjustments. The defense was strong all game and going aganist a vetern Line that given up only 4 sacks last year. They put pressure on Tenn all night and gave themselves a chance to win.

That may be an understatement. He had four interceptions in the first half. His high school team color must have been Tenn. orange or they had a 'T' on their helmets.

[Kevin]Craft, who threw four interceptions and totaled 66 yards in the opening half of his first game for UCLA, went 18-of-25 for 193 yards and one touchdown in the second half without an interception.

Anyone see UCLA NOT run the spread & run a PRO STYLE offense & Win!!!

DIfference??? O'Line & WRs.

And that Tennessee played horrible defense. UCLA had their best WR go down... they had a 3rd string QB, backup TE's and green WR's.... It wasn't talent that helped them as much as hanging around and Tennessee not finishing them off when they had a chance.

:headslap:

that may be true for CU but right now U-dub is kicking themselves because they fired him for being in a march madness pool:bored:...and they've never recovered

when he left, so did the recruiting and the program, it was UW who was the dumbass in that situation

I saw Chow spread them out with 4 and 5 WR sets and also I saw a little zone read but the Qb never pulled the ball from the HB. Chow also used alot of Pro Sets as well. He does a great job of mixing formations and spreading a defense out.

Pumchavas28

If the QB knows he's not gonna pull it, and the defense knows he's not gonna pull it, and the fans know the QB isn't going to pull it, that kinda defeats the purpose of a Zone Read, and it becomes a Hand Off, nothing more.

And going 4 or 5 wide is also Something A&M will do also... That still does not change the fact, that it's all about execution.

UCLA 95% of the time, ran a Pro Style offense... Tenn ran it about the same % as well when they were not doing the Direct Snap.

I'm a big fan of Norm Chow. He uses his spread formations wisely but never strays to far one way or the other. He also sneaks his RB's out into the spread as well and then abuses DC's who line up safeties on them which basically means you get a top 2 reciever on a safety or nickel back.
No OC in college football uses the wide hashmarks to dictate with formation and passing game like Chow does.

I would imagine Burnet that zone read was a give all the way...only because he's the third QB and they don't have much behind him. Normally an option all the way but now more of a give with a fake bootleg roll out....I just don't see them risking their only viable starter not on crutches.

I'm torn on Rick...yeah he did get kicked for a lame pool but there have been some other articles on alleged rape and cover up (Jeremy Stevens) and the CU debacle was nasty for everyone involved.

I'm not saying he's a sleaze but not sure he runs that tight of a ship either. This is his dream job so hopefully he keeps it together.

If Sherman called a offense like Chows I'd be:gig: but I didn't see that Sat Night. If he comes out aganist NM running something like what Chow did then I'll show him some respect. Even if he calls the play and we don't exacute, I'll be happy because he's showing us something. The QB carried out his Zone read fake, he just never kept the ball. It was open but I guess he was scared because the end was crashing down on the back and it was open for the Qb to pull it and run. I agree Chow mixes up Pro Set and Spread formations and throws to his backs as well. He also Sprinkles in a little zone read and I bet if he had a dual threat QB he'd run a little option. He uses balance very well and you never know what formation he's going to run and what play is coming out of that formation.:gig:
