What do ya'll think about tu using NOTHING but Freshmen at both Safety positions???

Not just as Starters, but back-ups as well???

I am guessing that they obviously are gifted athletes OR the veterans they beat out weren't all that good. One or the other...

BUT, they will be VERY short on experience... Does anyone think this could HURT tu???

You would think a good OC could find a way to exploit that... RIGHT????

Unfortunatly for A&M... the Ags wont get to test the Fish until November & by then, they will be battle tested & no Freshman around the country still plays like a Freshman by that time.

Their secondary is very weak this year. I listening to most of Mack's press conference yesterday afternoon. He went through the depth chart for Saturday's game and he hasn't even decided on who will play at safety (and a few other positions) yet. He said that it might come down to pregame warmups to determine who is going to start. In some instances, that might be a good thing b/c you have two guys that are both doing very good. However, it sounded a lot more like a situation where neither are doing good enough to earn the starting spot.

How much easier does it make your job as a Free Safety, if they call you the Safety on the Right????:laugh::laugh::laugh:

After last season’s struggles, Brown hired new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp away from Auburn in the offseason and made him one of the highest-paid assistants at $425,000 a year.

The Longhorns have had to simplify some of the defensive calls to help their young players feel comfortable on the field.

They’ve dropped terms such as “strong” and “free” safety and assigned positions as “left” and “right” to limit their defensive calls and give the new starters areas of the field to cover.

“The calls are simpler,” Brown said. “We can simplify what they do back there much easier.”

WOW!!!!!! I wonder how much they have to dumb down their class work for them????

I bet they are still considered as a Title contender until they lose at least 3 this year...

yes I'm worried about the secondary.
But you have to realize we have recruited some of the best DB's in the country over the past few years and it's time for them to show they were worth their high commitment. Our CB's are proven and should play good enough to keep us from getting too burned, and our DL may be pretty good too to help with a pass rush. While I think we'll give up some big pass plays I think we'll play good enough to hold our own. Besides it's not like we could get much more worse than we were the last two years.

tu just took another hit on defense with junior safety Ishie Oduegwu out indefinitely and had surgery on his shoulder yesterday.

Isn't tu is pretty thin at the safety position?

There was an article about this in today's Chronicle.

'To get the group comfortable, Brown said the terms “strong” and “free” safety have been dropped and replaced by designations of “left” and “right” so the younger players know what area of the field to cover.'

Doh. Oh well. I just scanned the article links. I've only got so much time in between clients here.

McGee picked their secondary apart last year, and J-Train spent the last two Lone Star Showdown's flattening Griffin.

These freshmen can't be worse.

Not really we have 5 guys that were all studs coming out of highschool and if just one of them can step up and prove their worth our secondary should turn out to be a little better.

No disrespect, but they'll really have to be studs. Normally, the freshman year of a safety or corner is long, painful, and ugly, if they are forced to play a lot. They may get better by the end of the year, but up to and including the OU game, I expect they will be exploited badly.

Granted, this could make them better as sophmores and up, but tu's secondary will be picked to shreds this season, no matter who the DC is.
