I hate to admit it, but I'm addicted.
Is there a 12 step program for this?

Still familiar with that feeling but yard work is starting to pile up. And now with football starting, I just might have to look for a lawn service.
And no, WOW can't break my NCAA football addiction.

World of Warcraft is an eater of souls. I've heard so many stories of people flunking out of school and losing touch with friends and family over that game. That's why I've never played it and don't plan to.

WoW is just the new version of Evercrack...err...I mean everquest. Think of it as crack cocaine replacing blow. Same basic ingredients, just WoW is more addictive than even the original. The only way to quit is cold turkey my friend. I tried just cutting back on everquest several years ago, but something would always come along and suck you back in. You just have to give your account to somebody else and delete the software off of your computer to eliminate the temptation.
There are no "recreational" meth users, just meth users who haven't ruined their lives...yet. Same thing for WoW.

my brother failed out of school for a game called everquest, it was wow before wow. Nerds called it evercrack.

I used to play Wow and Everquest before that and I had to quit cold-turkey twice, once for each game. For WoW, I spent almost no time with my then-girlfriend now-wife and would be up till 3 or 4am every night. It made it worse that bunch of people at work played, including my boss and we would talk about it at breaks and lunch.

GLB = AF.com's WoW
txags92

No, GLB isn't even close. There simply isn't enough functionality in GLB to keep you that involved. In WoW and Evercrack, the game was designed to eat up hours and hours of time to get anything accomplished. I was in exactly the same boat as Big John...I was up til 3-4am, pissed off my wife by being on it all the time, was worthless at work, etc. It really was just like being addicted to drugs. You were ALWAYS thinking about the game, and when you were playing, you had very little attention for anything else. I wasn't kidding when I compared it to Meth and Crack. There was a news story recently about a couple whose young kids either died or came really close to dying due to malnourishment because the parents were too absorbed in playing WoW to actually take care of them. If you haven't ever started playing...don't. If you have, get out while you can...and going cold turkey is the only way.

whatever...worthless threads are wasted every day on GLB...and that's the crime!:mad: you know it's a non-renewable resource!!!:stupid:

GLB = AF.com's WoW
Imagine it this way...instead of watching dots move around after the game is over, every player in GLB was controlling their own player on the field at the same time in real time...and all 44+ of you were playing in a game at real time speed, with madden/NCAA 2009 quality graphics and controls, etc. Then imagine if while the game wasn't being played, you had to do all the things a player would do...training, medical attention, buying food, buying equipment, etc. in real time...with interactions with other real life players. It was a real 2nd world, with high end graphics and thousands of other players all interacting.
If somebody ever did the same thing with Madden or NCAA 2009, it would dwarf the impact of fantasy football and WoW. It would literally be like crack cocaine and meth unleashed on every sports loving human being. The barrier between most guys and games like WoW or Everquest was the "fantasy" aspect of it and the desire not to be a "geek". If you were able to take away that problem by letting a guy play as a 6'5" 320lb Samoan Defensive Tackle instead of a Lvl 30 Elfen Ranger, you would be able to measure the impact of the game as a negative on the US GDP and a staggering increase in the divorce rate.

I thought I was the only EQ addict around here. All the way, high end. Finished with an uber toon. Went to WoW, uber'd there. Quit for a year and a half. New expansion , uber'd a new toon. Farm Kara, AZ. "Badges" just more addictive. Finally just deleted the whole thing. Started reading again. If that helps.
