Any of you have any good websites to buy a laptop from?

I know about the obvious; hp, gateway, dell, etc.

I'm looking for something around $1k..

My minimum:
2.0+ ghz processor (dual core)
3gb-4gb RAM
Independent GFX card, preferably Nvidio 8600M or better.
15.4" screen size

I configured a real nice one from www.cyberpowerpc.com but I figured I'd ask around and see if anyone else had any good ideas.

If you are still in school I know that Dell has really good offers on their laptops. I got one for around $900 that would have been over $1250 without the discount.

- 4gb Ram
- 15.4
- 2.4 ghz Intel Core 2

Not sure on the video card.

i dont know of any good deals atm but make sure you get as much ram as possible... (you have it already listed in your specs) but that is the most important part of a laptop these days because the laptop hard drives are still well below normal hard drive speeds so the more ram you have the less your computer will rely on your hard drive.

ive heard good things about the dell studio line though....

Well, see.. 4gb ram is pretty high up there unless you're looking for something $2k+. 4 should be good enough for me.

When it comes to hard drives, the standard for laptops are 5400rpm. Now, you can get 7200rpm hard drives, but im not sure how they are battery usage wise.

I built my desktop on cyberpowerpc. At the time, it was a bad mofo & was more affordable than any 'brand-name' machine out there. I don't know about laptops, though.

I just bought a toshiba from Best Buy. It was on sell for $750 at the time. It only had 3GB of RAM but could be upgraded to 4.

I got a smaller screen for longer battery life because of what I use it for. I don't play games or anything on it, but for the work I use it for, its a bad bitch.

dell has some sick deals on xps laptops. the 15" with 4 gigs of ram is pretty close to $1K i think. there's a banner ad when you click on home-->laptops--> a banner ad should pop up.

Well I ended up getting a dell. They had some nice deals. Thanks for the suggestion Massacre. I got the studio 17, not the XPS though. Total cost put me at $974.00. Best price I had found.

Studio 1735, Intel Core 2 Duo T8100, 2.1GHz, 800Mhz, 3M L2 Cache
4GB, DDR2, 2 Dimm
Hi Resolution, glossy widescreen 17.0 inch display (1440x900)
ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 3650
250G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive

I got a Dell XPS Mobile Powerhouse for work and it was around 1,400. They also have the Dell XPS Stylish Performer for around 1,200. The regular Dell XPS 1530 is a great computer for 900 bucks as well.
