Jenna Plumley, a junior point guard on the University of Oklahoma women’s basketball team, was arrested Monday on suspicion of petty larceny.

According to the Norman police incident log, Plumley, 20, was arrested at 11:57 a.m. at a Norman Wal-Mart, 601 12th Ave. NE. No other details were immediately available.

An OU athletics department spokesman said coach Sherri Coale is aware of the situation, but the department is making no comment.

Plumley, of Red Rock, started all 31 games last season. She averaged 7.8 points per game and made 103 assists.

Well, when you get on the big stage you need to stop. The downside is just too great if you are caught.

I know you were not, but your comment just reinforces the fact that if you are a minor and not on the big stage your petty crimes go basically unnoticed in the media if you are caught.

The stakes are just too high once you become a media darling. Someone needs to keep telling our college athletes this over and over.

OU's Plumley won't play this year after suspension
University of Oklahoma point guard Jenna Plumley will not participate in the upcoming season and has been suspended indefinitely from the women's basketball team, head coach Sherri Coale announced in a press release Thursday evening.

Plumley was arrested in Norman on Monday on a petty larceny complaint. She is accused of trying to take four cosmetics items valued at $34.65 from Wal-Mart in Norman.

"There had been ongoing concerns with Jenna that culminated in a meeting within the last two weeks," Coale said in a statement. "During that meeting a plan was outlined for what our program expected from her. She has not met those expectations. I am concerned for Jenna and want to proceed in a way that is in the best interest of her education and our team. This is an unfortunate situation, but I am hopeful that it will produce the best results in the long run."

Plumley will remain on scholarship.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Jenna to focus on her academic work and we certainly want to do everything we can to facilitate her success in that area,”Coale said. “In no way will we turn our back on her or our responsibility to her overall development.”
