On the KBTX website, there is local jackarse's complaining that the Lady AGs lost in the championship games and is blasting the coach. THis chaps my hyde that thiese morons would even post such comments.
I think we are all a little upset that they didn't win the NC, but come on they had a great year and played for the NC. Last year they were 2 and done and this year in the NC game. They are gonna get even better and may have another shot next year.
Below is a comment for one the local idiots:

The team really did good during the season but failed when it really counted. This is due to coach Jo Evans not having them prepared for this contest. The Aggie softball team should win the Big 12 and the tournament year after year easily because of the girls she can recruit in the State of Texas.Jo has not though been able to sign the big player that can make the difference like the former coach of the A&M softball team use to do.Here we go again saying the team had a good run and making all kind of excuses why they did not win but until we have a top notch softball coach at A&M I do not think that will ever happen. If we always want to be runner up keep it like it is if not A&M will have to go get a coach like the ones Arizona and Arizona State has. In closing coach Jo Evans there is no crying in softball.GIG EM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a F'in idiot.

Disregard the fact that we beat the best teams in the nation to get to the final series.
Guess I really don't see how your team can be unprepared and still make the final series?

We hadn't won a world series game in 20+ years (since 1987). I don't think the "previous coach" said poster alludes to did too awesome either. not to mention that Evans brought in both Gibson and Scarborough (two of the best pitchers we've ever had).

Absolutely, what a dick...can't believe this is a local commentator...Once again, a dick "acting" like we are a perennial powerhouse and anything less than the championship is "unacceptable"...this dooshbag probably never stepped on a jock...Reminds me of football season...

People also like to forget that we lost our best player early in the year. Megan wasn't even supposed to be our ace. Making the NC series was a huge accomplishment.

You are exactly right. It speaks volumes about this team that we were able to make it to the NC series.

I really hope that Amanda decides to come back next year. If we can get a couple of bats in that line-up we will be stronger than horseradish next year.
People also forget that ASU, in an effort to win their first NC, had dudes pitching & playing CF for them. I mean, lets be real....they might as well have both been named Pat. If was like we were bringing a knife to a gun fight.

How could she come back? She was denied a medical redshirt and is a senior. Her career at A&M is over.

I didn't realize she had already been denied her medical redshirt. I thought I heard them talking about it was still an option during one of the games last week. However, I realize that the information during the broadcast could absolutely be incorrect.

Unless something changed, she can't get a medical redshirt b/c she had already played too many games when she got hurt. I would love to be wrong.

On the situation:
A medical HARDSHIP (though the term redshirt is often used) is not the same thing as a redshirt (which requires that you don't play at all). You can be granted a medical hardship/redshirt if you play in less than 30% of your teams games and all of that is in the first half of the season.
We played roughly 70 games this year & Amanda only played in 10 or so.
aggie1997
06-05-2008, 10:21 AM
Maybe that is what the commentators were referring to. Hopefully she will be granted the hardship and will have an opportunity to win a NC from inside the circle.

Amanda played in 15 games this year and we played 67 as a team, including post season. That would put her eligible to come back. I hope she is able to come back. I just remember numerous articles about this after she hurt herself saying that it was not an option and that her career was over.

There were only 4 seniors on this years team, and that includes Amanda. Hopefully she will be able to return with a medical hardship. So, yes, we have a lot of great players coming back.

I was trying to find a straight answer on the NCAA website, but that is impossible. And when I tried to find the proper person to ask, the link doesn't work. I'll :rep: anyone that provides a direct link to the answer on the NCAA website.
For now, I guess we'll just have to go with second-hand info.

Here is the information from the NCAA. Also included the PDF if you would like to read the whole thing. It is section 14.2.4.
14.2.4 Hardship Waiver. A student-athlete may be granted an additional year of competition by the
conference or the Academics/Eligibility/Compliance Cabinet for reasons of “hardship.” Hardship is defined
as an incapacity resulting from an injury or illness that has occurred under all of the following conditions:
(Revised: 8/8/02)
(a) The incapacitating injury or illness occurs in one of the four seasons of intercollegiate competition at
any two-year or four-year collegiate institution or occurs subsequent to the first day of classes in the
student-athlete’s senior year in high school; (Revised: 1/10/92 effective 8/1/92, 11/01/01, 8/8/02)
(b) The injury or illness occurs prior to the completion of the first half of the playing season that concludes
with the NCAA championship in that sport (measured by the number of scheduled contests or dates of
competition not exceeding the maximum limitations in each sport as set forth in Bylaw 17 as set prior
to the first scheduled contest or date of competition of the designated official NCAA championship
playing season in the applicable sport or the number of completed contests or dates of competition) and
results in incapacity to compete for the remainder of that playing season; and (Revised: 1/14/97 effective
8/1/97, 4/26/01 effective 8/1/01, 4/3/02)
(c) The injury or illness occurs when the student-athlete has not participated in more than two contests or
dates of competition (whichever is applicable to that sport) or 20 percent (whichever number is
greater) of the institution’s scheduled or completed contests or dates of competition in his or her sport.
Only scheduled or completed competition (including exempted events but excluding scrimmages and
exhibition contests identified as such in the legislation) against outside participants during the playing
season that concludes with the NCAA championship, or, if so designated, during the official NCAA
championship playing season in that sport (e.g., spring baseball, fall soccer), shall be countable under
this limitation in calculating both the number of contests or dates of competition in which the studentathlete
has participated and the number of scheduled or completed contests or dates of competition
during that season in the sport. (Revised: 1/10/92, 1/14/97 effective 8/1/97, 4/26/01 effective

So if I read that correctly, she is NOT eligible b/c she participated in more than 20% of our games this year. Basically, she played in 2 games too many. :(

according to the stats from aggieathletics.com, she played the first 13 games then played against ILL and ULL later in the season.... that would make a total of 15 games she played in....

Sorry everyone for posting the previous years information. This is the updated regulation. Dustin is correct that the new regs state 30%. Sounds like Amanda may have an opportunity to receive a Hardship.

So what's next?
I could get the redshirt — I just don't know if I'm going to take it or not. Either way, I'll be with the team, whether it's as a student assistant coach, or being on the field.
Why wouldn't you take the redshirt?
I'd have to have another surgery — I'm not even going to be 100 percent healthy until November. I don't know … I've had a lot of fun doing what I've been doing for the past three months helping other people. Before I got hurt, I didn't want to be a coach, whatsoever. Now that I've had this new role, I'm kind of re-thinking that. I'm being more passionate about coaching and helping others. That gets me excited, whereas playing did that before.
