They put that list out about 6 years ago. I printed it off & kept it in the truck. Being in outside sales, I'm on the road a lot. I made it a goal to eat at all of them. Only got to scratch about half off the list. It'll be fun to start over again though....looking for out-of-state license plates was starting to get old.

Growing up in Texas and now living in Kansas City, I would have to say that Texas BBQ takes a back seat to Kansas City. You haven't tasted BBQ until you have been a judge at the American Royal.

I really beg to differ..I lived at Ft. Leavenworth for a couple of years and I thought their BBQ was too sweet..IMO..I really like east Texas BBQ best. Anyway..I appreciate your opinion and I did not sample all of the BBQ in Kansas so what do I know.

If you're ever in brownwood ask around and go to Smittys there. Walk up and order and don't ask questions and don't look suspicious. Also might not hurt to have a gun but that's the best chpped beef sandwich I've ever had in my life. I miss smittys :(

Places like Jack Stack, Oklahoma Joes (a kansas city place), and Arthur Bryants (which was named best bbq in the world) beats anything I've had in Texas.

I have had Arthur bryants, but thought it was a little different. The burnt ends are pretty good tho. Also had jack stack, but not a big fan.
I dunno, KC BBQ is def not my favorite, but it was a good change of pace.

Smoke Haus in Bertram is pretty damn good. I can't believe Blacks didn't make the top 50.

They must be from lubbock. They're the only people that rave about that crap. They've got good cobbler but their bbq is like something you'd get from lubys trust me and turn at the lake cut off back towards howard payne and go to smittys

yeah, i've been there too (have the big ass plastic cup to prove it!)
REALLY threw me off my game when they served the bbq directly on the tray (no plate or anything)...but I'm a clean freak/germiphobe.
It was good...but not the best I've ever had...but I am by no means a coniseur (sp?)

I know that the last time I was in Euless, this place called North Main BBQ had some of the best ribs I have ever eaten besides making Ribs on my own.

I like KC bbq, but just prefer the BBQ down here...they're different. Just like Memphis BBQ and Carolina BBQ.
It's all about what you like. It's all tasty though.
Burnet shocked by Blacks ommission too. I think it gets lost in the family feud hubub of Smitty's and Kreutz. They just go on serving underrated BBQ. Best in town imo and not near the crowd.
Oh and New Zion in Huntsville is a diamond in the rough. Lord the lunches I've eaten there over the years...when you pull up and see the folk cooking it you know its going to be good. Outstanding IMO.

I am partial b/c I have family in Lockhart. I would have to save for a road trip, Smitty's/Kreuz is the best. (And its spelt KREUZ, no "T").
But locally in B/CS, Martins bbq on South College is the best in B/CS.
