I don't think I've mentioned much about this, but I've been working out and eating well for about 3 months and I've lost 15lbs of pure fat since February.

I was going through a lot of changes over the last 2 years (mostly negative) and that's when the weight gain really took off. I was never obese by any means, but I was fat after sping 2007.

Things are so much better now, and I've worked really hard to make myself a better person all around. I just thank the Lord for helping me and keeping me focused.

So here's what I've been doing:
1.) Eating right:
When it comes to losing weight or fat this is the MOST important aspect. I never went on any diet plans, diet foods or shakes. I just don't eat foods that are nutritionally detrimental. Meaning I don't buy cokes, donuts, pizza, candy, ice-cream or fried foods. I've eaten these things at times, but it's very rare. Believe me, taking these foods completely out of you diet is effective. I also cook most my meals every night. I don't shy away from breads or meats at all. Meats and wheat products are actually really good and in my opinion almost essential if you are not eating special alternatives (nuts and grains) or supplements.

2.) Exercise:
I've been running a lot. I was running 3 miles a day at one point, but with 40 hr work weeks this summer I try for 3 or 4 times a week. Running helps you shed a lot and has also made my thighs and calves tight. Nobody likes running, but it grows on you. I feel really good while running now and it's become fun for me. I try to sprint as much as I can near the end so that I can really feel my stomach & sides burning. It's all motivation and you'll get it once you see results. I've been trying to work with weights as much as I can, but I mostly do lots of pushups, dumbell kickbacks and curls. I also make use of my pull-up bar. All this I do at home. I'm not real big by any means, but I was proud to work-out pretty easily (3 sets of 10 reps) with 180 on the bench last week. After losing all that weight I've been trying to start lifting at the gym, but I'm slowly getting into that.

3.) Consistancy
This is the most important part. It's so easy to quit and quit early. Reason being is lack or motivation. Lack of motivation comes from several sources and I've been personally challenged by all of them. First off just getting tired is an issue. I got tired fast and my own body was telling me to stop. I dealt with this by actually giving myself plenty of time to recover. That meant maybe taking 1 day off or changing routines for a couple days. The best way not to get burned out and de-motivated by your body is to sleep normally. You're going to need normal rest in order to build muscle and burn fat. Your body will beg you to stop anyway because of homeostasis, but you need to be smart and ignore it sometimes. Secondly I was demotivated by results. It takes a long time to change because your body is in that state of what it believes is best for your environment. It takes a while to persuade it that your environment has changed. Keep pushing it and be consistant. Third I was demotivated from cooking, but I love it now. I hardly give in to take-out now, but it was a struggle at times. Lastly, I was demotivated by my friends. Everyone wants to go out to eat, but aside from being broke I wanted to as well. It's hard to stay firm and not listen to people tell you to give in to fast-food and Chilis. They understand now and repect that... I think.

I have some before pictures, but I'm afraid to post anything like that. I just wanted to let you know, because I was so proud of myself. Also I wanted to let you know that it was God who helped me do this and he cares about every aspect of your life as you do.

I'm sorry to post such a long post, but I'm working a night desk and had time. I also wanted to share what I was doing and give you ideas and insight on how to accomplish losing fat yourself. Along with my revelation about dressing nicer, this has really made an impact on my daily life.

Congrats to you Conan. This is incredible and you have shown what dedication and hard work can do. You should feel very proud and you should now know that you can achieve anything that you set your mind to.:rep:

Conan's "fat" (I used quotations marks, because he only got up to about 200 or so pounds) period kicked off when he stayed at my apartment one summer. He went on the "Loftin diet," which brings instant fatness.

Congrats Conan. I'm up to the 188 mark (way to close to 200 if you ask me) and I've been thinking about pushing to get back down around 175. Maybe you just motivated me to do it. :)

My question -- how do you handle lunches/dinners at work? You can't really cook at work, and I personally have an aversion to leftovers (I can eat them, but just hate it).

Make sandwiches & take 'em with you. Mix in a fruit cup & a big glass of water & you are good to go.

I enjoy those small Tuna Fish meals you can purchase at any H-E-B, Walmart Grocery Dep., or other Food Stores...

Those are really good lunch meals if you do like Dustin said & add in a Fruit Cup & Water... :gig:

Every now & then for a going away or retirement I'll eat something different, but if I have no plans to eat with the Wife for Lunch, then I just eat tuna at Work.

Nice work Conan. I've actually been doing the same thing as you and have lost about 15 pounds as well in the last 2 months. I was up around 215 to 220 and am now back to 200.

Geez ... dare I admit to my weight? I started out on a diet and exercise plan at 340 and am now between 250-255 .... still a long way to go, though.

Someone asked about lunches .... I actually eat "two" .... around 10 in the morning I'll have some low fat lunch meat and crackers and at around 2pm I eat an apple, an orange, and carrots. No cooking needed .... total calories between the two amount to roughly 600 for the day. I eat at my desk and use the actual hour for walking.

Since we are on the topic of weight loss. I started workout with a trainer and eating right in February. Have lost 9 pounds but lost 7% body fat.

I meet with the trainer Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and workout for an hour and half. He provided a diet for me and I try to eat 5 times a day. Mainly consisting of chicken, steak, eggs, green vegetables, tuna, all natural PB and almonds.

awesome job.

try and do even more cardio in there. the running is great but can you jump on a road bike once or twice a week? Just two 30 mile rides/week will shrink you to nothing before you know it.

That is actually in my top 3 reasons why I switched from road bikes to mountain bikes exclusively...... I couldn't keep my weight on.

Or at the least if you want to lose weight you should up your weekly mileage running. I know you said you were busy but thousands of busy people somehow manage to find time to run 6 days/week.

Strive for 25 miles/week. That is a good beginner mark.

All I did was cut back on my portions a little, eat more fruit, and run 2-4 miles about 5 times a week.

I'm about 15 pounds over weight. I need to go back to Iraq and sweat this sh*t off. I Run 3 times a week, do Marine Drills each month and play all kinds of rec sports but for some reason I just can't seem to quit drinking so much Beer.:D

Careful with the absolutes! My extent of lifting weights includes 12 oz. curls.

Eating more often and in smaller portions is supposedly the fastest way to take weight off. It's a hard routine to get going, though.

Diet is the main reason I'm out of shape. Believe it or not, I do get quite a bit of exercise. However, I eat huge meals and haven't gotten rid of my gut. I got a job this year teaching PE and lost about 10 pounds (now at about 205), but I need a diet change to get to where I should be (about 175). My senior year of HS, I lost 14 pounds in the first 4 days of two-a-days, and was down to 165 at one point. Even at 165 and 6'1" tall, I had a gut. That comes down to meal portions and it's something I've never had control of.

im with you, mac....i can't believe these numbers...

i got down to 210 one summer i was working outside all day and people were asking me if i was anorexic or if i was eating enough

this past fall--for the people that actually went to the tailgate--I had gotten up to jorvorskie numbers toppin' out at 278(although, I'm 6'5'', not 6-flat). Today I'm at 252...but it's been tedious b/c I've kept my muscle: weights + sprints

congrats to everyone on here!

I've managed to keep my workout routine (2-3x a week) despite all of our "busy-ness" with the kids...I will say that the lack of sleep DOES take a huge toll on your body/recovery.
