Anyone familiar with the Mayan calendar? They were talking about it on the radio this morning. Apparently, the Mayan calendar ends on December 21, 2012. Some believe that the world will end on this day.
Thoughts?

Funny how these subjects come back around. I'm intrigued by it -- not just the Mayan calendar -- lots of stuff points to 2012.

Doesn't the bible state that no one will know when the Christ will return? Well, except for the Enquirer.

I will give you my thought on 12-22-2012......
This is such a joke, just like everyone thought the world would end on 12-31-1999 going into 2000, Y2K threats and everything pointing to it, end of a life, blah blah blah.
Funny thing is when I went to the website there are advertisements for T-shirts, one had "Doomsday 12-21-2012", how ironic.

My bible says that TMZ will know before the Enquirer.

Didn't we just have a thread on this? I recall talking about the increase in the number and severity of natural disasters. Maybe the earthquake in China is a continuation of that.

I don't buy the idea that 2012 (or any other date you pull out of a hat) will necessarily be the "end of the world", but maybe the end of the world as we know it. If 4 of 5 people perish in natural disasters, the world goes on -- but it wouldn't be what we are used to.
Yes, Our Lord tells us that no one will know the hour.
From the Gospel of Saint Matthew, Chapter 24
36 But of that day and hour no one knoweth, not the angels of heaven, but the Father alone.
But Our Lord does gives us signs to look for:
3 And when he was sitting on mount Olivet, the disciples came to him privately, saying: Tell us when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the consummation of the world? 4 And Jesus answering, said to them: Take heed that no man seduce you: 5 For many will come in my name saying, I am Christ: and they will seduce many.
6 And you shall hear of wars and rumours of wars. See that ye be not troubled. For these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be pestilences, and famines, and earthquakes in places: 8 Now all these are the beginnings of sorrows. 9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall put you to death: and you shall be hated by all nations for my name's sake. 10 And then shall many be scandalized: and shall betray one another: and shall hate one another.

That's why I wake up everyday and say today's the day. :) I'm not ready yet, and if I guess it, then it can't happen. :D (j/k)
