I was viewing cnnsi.com today and under the "College Football Stories" there are 9 stories of players either ineligible, or using dead girls credit card, arrested,etc...
Now I know people are human and make mistakes, but my gosh it is pretty sad that out of the 13 stories, 9 of them are about student players screwing up. What gives? What gives with today's student athletes that get into so much trouble. What kind of message does it send our youth?

alot of those kids just come from bad environments. we have had players from environments like that. (Didn't Sir Parker come from Compton, CA? i have driven through Compton and that is a scary place. it's scary right now and it's not near as bad as it was in the early 90's when Sir Parker was growing up) most of the time you don't have a chance from there.
i think it's up to the school to put them in an environment where they can better themselves. true, the #1 reason the kids are there is because they are gifted athletes and put their school in positions to win. but the schools still have an obligation to put them in a position to succeed in life.
honestaly, i think for the most part schools do. think of the thousands and thousands of student athletes out there. even though there are 9 stories out there that is just nine out of thousands.

1. It's offseason. Spring football is over and training camp hasn't started yet. The only news that comes out at this point is either rule changes, schedule changes, BCS meetings, or players/coaches in trouble. Pretty much any news is bad news this time of year.
2. Like Wade said, there are thousands of college football players, and many of them come from rough environments. It's no excuse, but it would be naive to think that this kind of stuff won't happen.
